Teachers to go on strike
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, September 9
To intensify their struggle, the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union has decided to go on a two-hour strike in their colleges from September 12 to 22.

Mr KBS Sodhi, President PCCTU, in a press statement today alleged that with political leaders busy washing their dirty linen in public and ministers making the best of opportunity to go abroad, disruption in studies in these colleges hardly seemed to be anybody’s concern.

The striking teachers said although the protest march to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by 500 college teachers did have some impact on the government, yet the two-period strike daily in the colleges and chain fast by the PCCTU in front of the DCs office had gone unnoticed. The ultimate sufferers were the students, parents and the teachers, they said.

Mr Sodhi said,”It is the governments’ callousness and indifferent attitude towards the teachers that has compelled them to resort to such a strike. To intensify our struggle, we will make protest marches in the constituencies of the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister and also make court arrests”.

Meanwhile, the chain fast of the PCCTU entered the sixth day, when 10 teachers from Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib sat on 24-hour long chain fast. Earlier, teachers from Muktsar, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda, Nawanshahr, Moga and Mansa had observed the strike.

The non-Government College Principals’ Association has also extended their support to the teachers struggle.

Fine performance by kids
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, September 9
Boogie Woogie, a contest for pre-nursery kids, was organised by Slim n Shape, here last evening.

Thirteen kids participated in the contest. Jahanvi and Ajam danced with elan to the tune of ‘Main zoru ka ghulam’. Madhur danced to the tunes of ‘I am a Barbie girl’. Abina was least conscious and danced with confidence to the popular Punjabi number ‘Galla goriyan te vich toye’.

One little girl dressed up as Sunny Deol in ‘Ghadar’ refused to budge much to the chagrin of the devastated parents. No amount of cajoling could make the little girl move. Sanya cried her eyes out and had to be coaxed to perform . Pavani, who was declared the winner of the contest, danced like a professional. Her footwork and expressions were marvellous .

Most of the kids were more interested in getting the goodies after their performance. The organisers gave away prizes to winners to boost up their morale.

‘Made for each other’ nite organised
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, September 9
It was a night to remember and party time for Ludhianvis, with over 250 odd couples, all dressed in black, dancing continuously for over six hours to the tunes of Mumbai-based DJ Akbar Sami at the dancing floor of a hotel here last night.

The night — “Made for each other” — proved to be spectacular extravaganza of music and dance as the couples mingled with music and flashing lights. To add to the colour and the glamour of the night was a fashion parade in which models from Delhi and Chandigarh sashayed down the ramp displaying latest collection of trousers, T-shirts and jackets.

The scintillating music was provided by city-based DJ Pankaj Sharma of Rhythmics. Akbar Sami of the jalwa fame kept the night literally alive. So there was all the reason for the dance floor getting crammed to capacity. The tunes included the perfect blend of Punjabi pop and English numbers. The dancing pairs got some interesting offers from all the sponsors.
