700 examined at medical camp

Amloh, August 26
A mass medical and de-addiction camp was organised by Christu Jyoti Hospital, Amloh, in coordination with about 40 doctors and staff of the Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana, here yesterday. More than 700 patients were examined at the camp and provided free medicines. Captain Kanwaljit Singh, Minister of Finance and Planning, Punjab, was the chief guest. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Balwant Singh Shahpur, MLA, Amloh, and was presided over by Mr Vikas Partap, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib.

While addressing the function Captain Kanwaljit Singh stressed upon the need to make people aware of drugs and alcohol abuse. He made an appeal to the religious organisations to educate the people against the use of drugs. The minister claimed that the government had made all arrangements for procurement of paddy. The chief guest announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh for the hospital for the purchase of an X-ray machine and Rs 2 lakh was announced for the gram panchayat for water-drainage network of Bhadal Thuha village near here.

Mr Balwant Singh Shahpur spoke about various development works in Amloh constituency. Mr Vikash Partap, Deputy Commissioners, Fatehgarh Sahib, expressed concern over the declining sex ratio in Punjab. He said the situation was alarming in the district as the sex ratio here was lower than many other districts of the state. The Deputy Commissioner appealed the doctors to work for curbing the menace of drugs. He gave Rs 10,000 out of the districts Red Cross Society fund to meet a part of the cost of medicines which were given free of cost to the patients at the camp.

Babies’ day out

Ludhiana, August 26
August 26 was a day for bonnie babies to display their beauty, cute smiles and charm at a baby show organised by Deep Hospital in the hospital premises. Over 70 children participated ranging from the newly born babies to four-year-old kids. The children were dressed in their best attires and parents were seen proudly displaying their offsprings.

The judges had to decide on the basis of the general health of the child, his immunisation, weight and responses. All together eight prizes were given.

Gaurav nets 5 goals in handball final

Ludhiana, August 26
Upadhya Shri Phool Chander Jain Public School, Jamalpur, prevailed over BCM Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, 9-7 to clinch the trophy in the Sahodaya School Handball Tournament held at USPC School, here yesterday.

Gaurav netted 5 goals, while Varinder and Harman scored 3and 1 goal, respectively, for the winners. For BCM School, Nishan Narang scored 3 goals, followed by Harjit Pal Singh (2), Umesh Gupta and Kamal Nain one each .

GNP School, Sarabha Nagar, finished third and Nankana Sahib Public School stood fourth. In the girls’ section, Guru Hargobind School, Sidhwan Khurd, overpowered GNP School, Mullanpur, 8-6 to win the championship. Nankana Sahib Public School and BCM Arya School, Chandigarh road finished third and fourth, respectively.

Mr Prem Sagar Aggarwal, a local industrialist, gave away prizes to winners. Mr T.R. Jain and Mr Mohinder Pal Jain, president and secretary, respectively, of the USPC School management committee were also present at the prize distribution function.
