Bus service from Kalka to GMCH-32 demanded
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 26
For employees of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh , who reside in Kalka and its vicinity, commuting between the two places is a nightmarish experience as they have to change at least two buses daily.

Employees told Chandigarh Tribune that there was no direct bus route of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) or the Kalka Bus Depot from Kalka to the GMCH and they had to go to Mani Majra to take the bus.

Even from Mani Majra only one bus (route no. 30A) was available for travelling to the hospital and if it was missed, they had to wait for more than an hour for another bus on the route.

Sometimes they had to go to the ISBT, Chandigarh, and from there had to board another bus for the hospital. In this process a lot of time was wasted, they added.

Ms Puja Sharma, a GMCH employee, said women had to face more problems, especially when they were on evening duty and had to return home at night.

She said though the CTU had recently started new bus routes from Mani Majra yet it did not benefit them in any way. Mrs Sharma said more buses on route No. 30A and new routes to the GMCH should be started to facilitate hassle-free commuting. She also demanded direct bus routes from Kalka to the GMCH.

Patients from Kalka ,who are admitted to the GMCH, and their attendants have their plight compounded as they are fleeced by autorickshaw owners at the ISBT. Rajender Kumar of Kalka, whose relative is admitted here for the past one week, said he had to spend three to four hours daily in wait for the bus.
