Youngsters take to the floor
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, August 26
Stifling heat and humidity could not dampen the spirits of 42 youngsters who danced to the tune of yesteryear and current hit Hindi numbers during a dance competition “Disco Deewane” in a packed indoor auditorium of Bal Bhavan in Sector 23 here this evening.

The competition was organised by Chandigarh Art Theatre with an aim to promoting the budding talent of the region and providing them with a platform to showcase their dancing skills. However, the talent of the contestants was limited to the imitation of steps choreographed by hotshot choreographers of the country and executed by leading actors and actresses of Bollywood.

As nothing good in life comes for free, the contestants had to shell out an amount of Rs 300 for each solo item and Rs 500 for group items they performed during the competitions. The contest was divided into four categories — A,B,C and D — the former three were categorised according to the age group that started from 5 years to 25 years, and the last being group presentations.

The panel of judges included Mrs Charanjit Kaur, Principal of the Sensation School of Music and dance, Mohali; Mr Naresh Saini, an actor, dancer and choreographer; and Mr Madan Gupta Spatu, a journalist and playwright of the city. The competition was compered by Mr Rajesh Ahuja and Ms Sunita.
