Two titles for Manideep

Manideep Kaur of PAU Ludhiana was at the centre-stage as she clinched titles in two disciplines, table tennis and badminton, during the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle Sports Tournament being held here on the Punjab Agricultural University campus. Manideep had earlier outnumbered Chandeep Kaur 11-8, 11-7 to bag the table tennis title and yesterday she defeated Mandeep Kaur of BRS Nagar Unit 11-9,11-5 to grab the badminton title.

In the final of the boys (U-14) section, Vicky outplayed Satwinder Singh 15 -9, 15-6 while in the girls section Mandeep Kaur drubbed Manisha 11-5, 11-9. In the senior boys final, Rupinder Singh defeated Jatinder Singh 15-12, 17-15. In the mixed doubles final Ravinder Singh teamed with Gurvinder overpowered Charan Kamal Singh and Amarjit Kaur 15-8,15-7.

In cricket , PAU unit and Dugri-City XI entered the final . In the first semi-final, PAU Unit beat Dasmesh Nagar Unit by 8 wickets. Batting first, Dasmesh Nagar Unit scored 88 runs losing 7 wickets after 15 overs. Jagdev Singh and Saurabh contributed 19 and 18 runs respectively. For PAU Unit, R.D.Singh captured two wickets conceding 14 runs. PAU Unit achieved the target in 13.3 overs. The main contributors were Varun and Suhail who made 32 runs a piece.

The second semi-final was played between Dugri-City XI and BRS Nagar Unit in which the former emerged winners by four wickets. BRS Nagar Unit made 107 for 2 in the allotted 15 overs. Jaspreet was the top scorer with 29 runs, followed by Onkar and Amrit Singh who made 23 runs each. Dugri-City XI scored the required runs losing 6 wickets with just two balls to spare. Amrit and Kawalpreet hit 32 runs each while for BRS Nagar Unit, Ravinder Singh chipped in with three wickets for 17 runs.
