Eat healthy food and remain happy for glowing skin
Shivani Bhakoo

Ludhiana, August 6
“The best way to get a healthy and glowing skin is to eat a normal diet and remain happy all the time”, These views were expressed by Dr J.S.Pasricha, former Head, Department of Dermatology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Dr Pasricha was in the city to attend the North Zone Workshop on Occupational and Contact Dermatitis, jointly organised by the Department of Skin and V.D, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), and Contact and Occupational Dermatitis Forum of India (CODFI).

While talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Dr Pasricha said that people had misconceptions that pollution was one of the major causes for various skin problems. He said: “Pollution had nothing to do with skin problems. The skin diseases were mainly caused due to the regular use of different creams and oils and uncleaned skin”. He cautioned the people that the manufacturers of these creams and oils were cheating the public.

Dr Pasricha stressed that the creams available in the markets could not control skin pigmentation, wrinkles, black circles and pimples. “All you need is to wash skin or face properly with a good soap. The use of soap helps to remove the dirt and fat of the skin and it does proper cleaning”, added the expert.

Dr Pasricha said that shampoos or soaps could not be held responsible for dandruff. “People can even shampoo their hair daily. Oils are not necessary for healthy hair”, he added.

The expert from Delhi also suggested that one should remain happy and satisfied. “If you feel depressed and unhappy, you will look pale and sick. You should live life happily and take a nourished diet”, said Dr Pasricha. He also said that good results for any skin disease could come from persistent treatment. Faith in your doctor was essential. He ensured that fatal and serious skin problems could be cured completely, if the patient followed a competent doctor’s advice. The one day workshop held at Dumra Auditorium today was attended by over 100 delegates from all over India. The experts discussed latest developments in the field of skin dermatitis.

The conference was inaugurated by Mr Prem Nath Gupta, Secretary Managing Society, DMCH. Mr Gupta said that present lifestyle was responsible for various skin diseases. Dr Alka Dogra, organising chairperson and Head of the Department of Skin, DMCH stressed that people should avoid the use of cosmetics as they contained harmful ingredients.

Many papers and researches on the topics like ‘latest techniques in patch testing’, ‘testing with unknown potential allergies’ and ‘interpretation of patch test results’ were presented on the occasion.

The eminent experts who presented their papers in the conference included Dr J.S.Pasricha, Dr V.K.Sharma, Head of the Skin Department, AIIMS, Dr C.R.Srinivas, president, CODFI from Coaimbatore, Dr Bhushan Kumar from PGI, Dr A.K.Banerji from Allahabad, Dr Sandeep Puri and Dr Sunil Gupta.
