Pronouncing a landmark judgement today in a dowry death case, Mr G.S. Gill, Additional Sessions Judge, sentenced rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and a fine of Rs 2,000 to Gurvir Singh for killing his wife.

Mother, two daughters commit suicide
Ludhiana, July 26
Mystery shrouds alleged suicides committed by a woman and her two young daughters, who were found dead reportedly after consuming some poisonous substance at their house in Giaspura Colony near Focal Point here yesterday as the police inquiries into the reasons behind the alleged act remained inconclusive.

WHO gives rabies control project to PAU professor

In a tragic incident, one labourer was killed while another seriously injured when a lift-back truck ran over a number of labourers sleeping in a park at Partap Chowk here early in the morning.

Two booked for youth’s murder

The Focal Point police today booked two migrant labourers for allegedly murdering another labourer, whose decomposed body was found from a house in Dhandari Kalan here late last evening. It is suspected that the deceased was murdered with sharp-edged weapons about three days ago.

2 pick-pockets nabbed

Murder case accused acquitted
Ludhiana, July 26
Mr S.S. Arora, Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, has acquitted Somnath, a resident of Bhagwan Dass Colony, Salem Tabri, of the charges of kidnapping and murdering Manjit Singh of Patiala, for want of evidence.

3 acquitted in dowry death case
Ludhiana, July 26
Mr A.K. Sharma, additional sessions judge, Ludhiana, acquitted Rajpal Singh, his mother Balwant Kaur, father Harmel Singh of Kotla shamspur village, in the dowry death case of Harjit Kaur, as charges levelled against them could not be proved.

2-yr sentence for forging RC, driving licences
Ludhiana, July 26
Mrs Sukwinder Kaur, Judicial Magistrate, First Class, has convicted Kewal Krishan, a typist of old courts, Ludhiana, and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for two years, besides a fine of Rs 1000 on charges of forging driving licences and registration certificates of vehicles.

 

ADMINISTRATION

DC’s orders not enforced
Ludhiana, July 26
While the administration may claim to solve umpteen number of complaints on the spot at weekly sanghat darshan programmes, several officials do not take the orders seriously. This is evident from a case, which came up for hearing on July 12.

SSP transferred
Ludhiana, July 26
Mr Kuldip Singh, SSP, Ludhiana, has been transferred and Mr Harpreet Singh Sidhu has been posted in his place. Mr Sidhu was earlier posted as SSP, Patiala. The transfer is termed as routine one as other SSPs have also been shifted.
