Israelis vandalise PLO houses, cars

Israeli troops and settlers vandalised Palestinian houses and cars here overnight following one of the worst days of violence since a would-be ceasefire was declared one month ago.

Witnesses said Israelis from the Kiryat Arba settlement pelted neighbouring Palestinian houses with stones after around 2,000 Palestinians staged a late night rally in the divided city to protest against the Jewish state. The Israeli army poured tanks and troops into the Palestinian areas of the city in a pre-dawn raid early yesterday following gun attacks on Thursday that left two settlers dead and wounded several others.
