Kashmiri Pandits meet Vajpayee

Kashmiri Pandits today urged Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to demand compensation from Pakistan for the plight undergone by the community due to cross-border terrorism sponsored by Islamabad and insisted on their involvement as “a natural party” in any settlement of the Kashmir issue. PTI

2 killed in landmine blast
Ananthapur, July 9
Two persons were killed and seven policemen injured in two separate landmine blasts triggered by Naxalites of the banned People’s War Group (PWG) near Dharmavaram town in Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh yesterday. The police said here today that the two were killed in an explosion at a gravel road between Ganginepalli and Eruvonipalli village while the policemen were injured at Veldurthi village. The blast was triggered by remote control from a hillock when the policemen were proceeding on two-wheelers. UNI

Enron corpn chief
New Delhi, July 9
Enron Corporation Chief Executive Wade Cline held a meeting with Finance Secretary Ajit Kumar here today as part of efforts to find an amicable solution to the ongoing problems in its Indian operation unit — the Dhabol Power Company (DPC) in Maharashtra. According to informed sources the meeting was aimed at resolving the company’s ongoing payment dispute with the Maharashtra State Electricity Board. UNI

24 feared drowned
Gorakhpur (UP), July 9
At least 24 persons, including women and children, were feared drowned when a boat capsized midstream in the Narayani river in neighbouring Kushinagar district yesterday, official sources said today. PTI
