Alert pilot averts disaster
New Delhi, July 8
At least 63 passengers aboard a Chennai-bound Jet Airways plane had a close brush with death today when the pilot aborted the take-off after noticing smoke inside the cockpit. One person was slightly injured in the incident that led to closure of the airport for about an hour as the plane was stranded on the main runway, airport and airline spokespersons said. The flight 9W 821 was just starting its take-off roll on the runway at around 6.45 am when it was noticed that “some white vapour was filtering into the cockpit and the cabin through the air-conditioning ducts”, the spokespersons said.
