A sangat darshan organised at Chohla Sahib township and presided over by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal proved to be embarrassing for the police as the SSP, Mr Jagdish Kumar Mittal, had to pay Rs 2,800 which ASI Hari Singh posted at Verowal police station owed to a milkman.

Funds released for jobless youth
Gurdaspur, June 18
The Punjab Government has released Rs 20 lakh to give a facelift to vacant premises in the proximity of the office of Subdivisional Magistrate, Dhar sub division, and the crossing opposite the office. Official sources said as many as 22 shops would be constructed in the area for the economically backward and needy unemployed youth on merit, under the self-employment scheme. The allotment authority has been wested with the Deputy Commissioner.

Rally against demolition of building by owners

Activists of the Shahar Bachao Committee today took out a rally through the various bazars of the city in protest against the demolition of a building by its owners with the help of more than 100 goonj. They raised slogans against the district administration and the state government. The activists were demanding a judicial probe into the incident and demanded the arrest of all those who were involved in the incident.

Police takes away fasting mill workers

The police today took away Mr Binder Singh Gurne and Mr Ajmer Singh Kotli, workers of Budhlada Cooperative Sugar Mill, who have been on an indefinite fast since June 10. It also took away Mr Beant Singh Kainth who has been on an indefinite fast since June 1 after his condition worsened.

Mr Harminder Singh Jassi, General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, has urged the state government that suitable compensation be paid to the growers of grapes whose crop was destroyed due to untimely rain.
