Our Correspondent

Fatehgarh Sahib, May 20
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Vikas Pratap, directed the heads of all departments of the district to furnish information about vacant posts which could be filled by direct recruitment in their respective departments, so that the posts reserved for dependants of terrorist and riot-affected persons could be filled up. These directions were issued yesterday during a sangat darshan programme held at Bachawat Bhavan for hearing the grievances of the public.

A resident of Damheri village, Ranjeet Singh complained to the Deputy Commissioner that a patwari, Sukhwinder Singh, had demanded bribe from him for giving him the “jamabandi” of his land. Residents of Vajidpur village complained that their village falls in Fatehgarh Sahib district while the control of the primary school of the village was with Ludhiana district. The Deputy Commissioner, directed the District Education Officer (DEO), to immediately rectify the problem so as to avoid inconvenience to the public.

The DC also directed the ADC (Development) to solve the ongoing case of the panchayat of Kahrora village regarding the ‘shamlat land’, so that conflicts between people of the village could be stopped. The villagers also complained about harassment at the hands of the police. Residents of Laadpur and Chobdara villages have complained that the primary schools of these villages were functioning without teachers.

Harbans Singh of Chobdara village demanded that a teacher had been appointed on an ad hoc basis and that he should be made permanent. In addition to this, the residents complained that in spite of having paid the required amount for the 24 hour power supply, the board had not yet provided the supply. Residents of Vajidpur village brought to the notice of the DC problems like repair of roads, cremation grounds and demanded quick action. The DC announced a grant of Rs 60,000 for the road leading to the cremation ground to the panchayat of Ramgarh village.

The DC directed the District Development and Panchayat Officer to look into the matter. Dalits of Pirjain village asked for a grant for public toilets in the village.

Residents of Ambemajra village complained that not a single elderly person was getting the benefit of old age pension and no record of the village was available at the office of the District Social Security Officer. The Deputy Commissioner asked the DSSO to fill the forms of eligible persons and start pension immediately.

Dalits of the Bhamarsi Jher village complained that during the auction of the panchayat land the Panchayat Secretary misbehaved with them and asked for a bribe in order to favour them during the auction of land which had been reserved for Dalits. The DC directed the DDPO to investigate the matter.

During the sangat darshan 45 complaints were received, out of which 15 were solved on the spot. The DC directed officials of the concerned departments to solve the remaining complaints within 15 days and report to him.
