Lanka arrests 31 Indian fishermen

Sri Lanka’s navy has arrested 31 Indian fishermen allegedly poaching in the island’s territorial waters over the weekend, defence officials said today. The fishermen in six boats were found close to the northern Jaffna peninsula on Friday and Saturday, officials said, adding that they had been handed over to the police for investigation. AFP

Zoo lion dies

A 14-year-old lion died at the Nehru Zoological Park here on Sunday after a brief illness. Randhir, the hybrid lion, was suffering from diarrhoea since May 5 and was put under intensive medical care the next day, Assistant Conservator of Forest S. Rama Rao said. UNI
