HC directive on tractor-trailers flouted 
Ludhiana, March 31
Hundreds of tractor-trailers continue to move on roads carrying all sorts of goods despite the ruling of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court has ordered that the tractor-trailers shall not be used for commercial purposes and their use shall be restrict to agricultural purposes only.

Ram Navami celebrations begin

Ludhiana, March 31
A number of Shobha yatras were taken out today by Shri Sanatan Dharam Mahotsav Committee and other religious bodies through various parts of the old city to mark a state of Ram Navami celebration.

The Haibowal police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of smugglers indulging in sale of animal , especially tiger, skin. One person has been arrested and seven hides were found in his possession. The seizure has brought to light killing of tigers, lions and other animals in forests of Jammu and Kashmir.

Bonded labourer rescued
Ludhiana, March 31
The People’s Vigilance Committee, a non-government organisation, today claimed to have rescued a bonded labourer from a village in Kaithal district here. Karamveer Singh had been working as a bonded labour with an agriculturist at Tarawali village in Kaithal district for the past five years.

Case of forgery registered
Ludhiana, March 31
The Model Town police yesterday registered a case of fraud by forgery under Sections 419,420,467,468,471 and 120B of the IPC by orders of the SP (Operation) against Gurdial Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Piara Singh Kainth, Harchand Singh, Lekh Singh Nambardar, Bishan Singh, Daljit Singh, Munshi Ram and some other persons for allegedly preparing false documents and getting the land of the complainant registered in their names.

Workshop on bee-keeping over

A 10-day workshop-cum-advanced training programme on “General management of honey bees”, organised by the Centre of Excellence in Beekeeping, Department of Entomology, PAU, concluded here yesterday. Scientists from various states, including Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Punjab, participated.

The people working in the Forum are helpless to improve the working condition of the office as they do not have the sufficient funds to do so.

PSEB told to compensate for inflated bill
Ludhiana, March 31
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) to pay Rs 4,000 as compensation on account of deficiency in services to Ms Balwant Kaur (70), a resident of Miller Ganj. The forum further directed the board not to claim the disputed amount relating to another account from the complainant.Top
