President K.R. Narayanan is in a stable condition after undergoing successful surgery for removal of gall bladder stones at a city hospital today morning. A statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan here said that the President was recovering well. A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued earlier said that the President would not receive any visitors as per medical advice.

APCC Deputy Spokesman expelled
ITANAGAR, March 29
Deputy spokesperson of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Mr Bamang Felix, has been expelled from the primary membership of the party following allegations of the misuse of party office by him. The decision to expel Mr Felix was taken at an APCC meeting at Congress Bhavan here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of its president Mukut Mithi, an APCC press note said here. PTI

Female population in Sikkim declines
GANGTOK, March 29
The women population in Sikkim is on the wane despite the state’s traditional respect for the fairer sex. According to a provisional census report 2001, the population of this former kingdom stood now at 5,40,493 of them 2,88,217 males and 2,52,276 females. The report said the sex-ratio (number of females per 1000 males) in the state was 875. However, it was 878 in 1991. UNI
