Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, March 16
Mr R.K. Marwaha, a 1984-batch IAS officer of the UT cadre, took over as the Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) here today.

Mr Marwaha, who was the Director of Vigilance in the Delhi Government before his posting here, has held several key posts in the past. He has worked as the Secretary to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh from 1992 to 1995.

Later, he worked as the Joint Home Secretary, and the Director of Social Welfare in the Delhi Government. After that, he also served in the New Delhi Municipal Corporation as its Secretary.

A former Army officer, Mr Marwaha joined the first batch of the Short Service Commission in 1996 before joining the Delhi Andamans and Nicobar Service in 1973. Earlier in the day, Mr Marwaha visited various wings of the board and interacted with officials. Later, he was given a presentation by the board Chief Engineer, Mr S.K. Jain, about the activities of the board. The Chief Executive Officer of the board, Ms Varsha Joshi, was among those present at the presentation.

Mr Marwaha succeeds Ms Neeru Nanda, who was holding this additional charge. Ms Nanda, a 1970-batch IAS officer of the UT cadre, had taken over as the board Chairperson on May 12 last year and became the Adviser to the UT Administrator, on January 12.

The post of the CHB Chairman has traditionally been held by officers who are about as senior as the Adviser. Mr Marwaha joins at a time when the CHB is all set to launch the much-awaited housing scheme in Sector 51 here.
