Love for Sanskrit made him translate ‘Gitanjali’
Ludhiana, March 15
While there may be a number of translations of the world famous “Gitanjali” by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, there was none so far in Sanskrit. Mahaveer Prasad Sharma, a well-known Hindi and Sanskrit poet from Haryana has acquired the distinction of translating the “Gitanjali” into Sanskrit in the verse form.

14 research papers presented

More than 14 research papers were presented by scientists on earthquakes, floods, landslides, cyclones and water-logging on the third day of the International Conference on “Natural Hazards: Mitigation and Management” being organised by the Eartquake Research Centre (Physics Department) of Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with the Natural Disaster Management (NDM) division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, here yesterday.

Khalsa Diwan former president arrested
Bathinda, March 15
Mr Harpal Singh Mithoo, a former president of the Khalsa Diwan, and 10 of his supporters were arrested after they forced their way into the local Khalsa school today and asked the Principal to vacate the premises since the present management, they claimed, had been dissolved.

10 lakh for drug deaddiction centre

Mr Jaspal Singh, Deputy Commissioner, has said Rs 10 lakh would be spent for the development of a drug deaddiction hospital here. He was presiding over a meeting of members of the District Red Cross yesterday.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr Birender Singh, has directed the SP (Detective), Patiala, Mr Mohinder Singh Chahal, DSPs Jagtar Singh and Ramesh Chander, all accused in a case pertaining to the alleged illegal detention and subsequent disappearance of Babbar Khalsa activist Sukhdev Singh, alias Sukha, to surrender before the court of the Special Magistrate (CBI) here tomorrow.

Students unable to take exam
