CHOKILA TAKES CHARGE AS FOREIGN SECRETARY
New Delhi, March 13
Ms Chokila Iyer today became the first woman Foreign Secretary of the country when she assumed charge replacing Mr Lalit Mansingh.

Mr Mansingh is leaving for Washington tomorrow as India’s Ambassador to the USA.

Ms Iyer, 1964 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, had been working as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of External Affairs for the past several weeks for getting a closer view of the working of the Ministry.

She has served as Joint Secretary (Africa) and Additional Secretary (Passport and Visa) and country’s Ambassador to Ireland before returning to the Ministry to become the Foreign Secretary. TNS
