2 criminals, 17 gamblers held

The local police has arrested two notorious criminals. Giving details, the SSP here, Mr Manohar Singh, said one Mohinder Singh of Lachhipura village was arrested along with a truck, from Pathankot. The accused had recently chopped-off arms of a youth Karamjit Singh. In another raid, the Rajbagh police arrested Jarnail Singh of Sait Mangloor village in Hiranagar tehsil who had been accused for raping.

Diamond jewellery and gold worth Rs 87.65 lakh has been seized by the officials of the Sales Tax Department during a surprise raid conducted in the city.

Meanwhile, the local police led by the SHO here, Mr J.S. Sumbria, raided a hideout in the main bazaar and arrested 17 gamblers and seized Rs 70,000 from them.

Later, a delegation of the local Beopar Mandal here met the DSP headquarters, Mr Malik for release of the arrested gamblers. The gamblers were released with a strict warning.

Diamond jewellery and gold worth Rs 87.65 lakh has been seized by the officials of the Sales Tax Department during a surprise raid conducted in the city.

According to the Deputy Sales Tax Commissioner, the consignment was clandestinely brought to the state from Gurgaon (Haryana) for sale in the state.
