Hambowal sports
meet begins today

Feb 25 — The sixth three-day sports meet in Hambowal Bet village will begin tomorrow at Government Senior Secondary School. The Guru Nanak Sports Club, which is the organiser, have completed all arrangements. Mr Satish Malhotra, chairman of the club, said the meet would be inaugurated by the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mr Satpal Gosain. The events include football (open), Kabaddi (open) and Kabaddi (47, 52 and 62 kg), wrestling (60, 70 and 90kg), Rasakashi, volleyball, dog races, race (100m, 200m and 400m), races of panches-sarpanches, nambardars, Chowkidars and of above 60 years age group. The sports Minister of Punjab, Mr Nusrat Ali Khan, will give away prizes and Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, will preside over the prize distribution function. The teams and players will be awarded with cash prizes and sports goods. France . LUDHIANAAthletics meet The 49th annual athletics meet of A.S. College, Khanna, concluded at the Madan Gopal Chopra Stadium of the College here on Saturday. The meet was inaugurated on February 23, 2001 by Mr Des Raj Mehta, an old freedom fighter and philantropist. Dr Ashol Gupta, Head, Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, DMC, Ludhiana, presided over the concluding day function and gave away the prizes to the winners. He donated a sum of Rs 21000 for the development of sports at the colleges. Mr Tarsem Bahia, Principal of the college, welcomed the chief guest. The sport festival was attended by a large number of sarpanches of the nearby villages and prominent personalities of the town including Mr Ashok Tewari, Mr Ashok Sharma, Mr Paramjit Singh, Advocate, President, General Secretary and the Secretary of the college management resepectively were also present on the occasion.
