Concessions in
house tax Sonepat, February 25 Deputy Commissioner, Sudhir Rajpal told mediapersons here today that the state government had halved the cost of the land to be calculated at the price fixed by the collectors of the districts concerned, and they would reduce the house tax by 42 per cent to 50 per cent from what was earlier projected. He said the property owners, if dissatisfied with the calculation done by the government-approved survoyers, would have an option to file appeals before the civic bodies as well as the Deputy Commissioners concerned. The Deputy Commissioner claimed that in some cities, the total amount of the house tax had gone down as compared to the amount earlier being collected. He claimed that the increase in the house tax would be only 10 to 20 per cent. Mr Rajpal said as per the new instructions of the state government, the RCC-covered area would be assessed at the rate of Rs 300 per square foot, whereas wooden batton or ACC-covered areas would be calculated at the rate of Rs 150 per square foot and the owners would be given relief at the rate of 1 per cent per year up to a maximum of 50 per cent. He further said the rate of the house tax had been reduced from 12.5 per cent to 10 per cent and the property assessed at Rs 1 lakh would be liable for a tax of Rs 112,50 per year. |
DHBVN to
launch VDS Faridabad, February 25 Stating this here today, the Superintending Engineer (Operation), V.K. Aggarwal said the scheme would be applicable initially for the residents of Faridabad and Ballabgarh towns. This scheme had been earlier started in Hisar division, comprising Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Dabwali and Ellenabad towns. Mr Aggarwal said the scheme would remain operative from March 5 to 16. He said the consumers taking benefit of the VDS-2001 would be charged penality at one-third of the normal penalty. The penalty would be calculated on the basis of connected load as declared by the consumer or the load sanctioned, whichever was more, he said. The payment of the penalty would be made by the consumer alongwith the application of ‘voluntary disclosure’. On disclosure of tampering or fault, the meter would be removed and a new electronic meter would be installed within seven days, the cost of which would be borne by the customer. In case the declared load is more than the sanctioned one, the additional advance consumption deposit will be made by the connection holder. The details for the calculation of reduced penalty under this scheme have been made available in the offices of Sub-Divisional Officers. |
INLD rally demoralises
BJP Faridabad, February 25 The rally, which is scheduled to be addressed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, was earlier postponed in the wake of the earthquake in Gujarat. The INLD leaders in almost all districts have become active and started canvassing and mobilising maximum support. A meeting of the party was held here yesterday in this connection. It was chaired by Cooperation Minister Kartar Bhadana and attended by office-bearers and activists of the district INLD. It is learnt that the party leadership has directed its prominent activists to work hard for the success of the rally as it is seen as a reply of the ruling party to the campaign by Opposition parties of Haryana. While the ‘INLD’ workers appear to be ‘enthusiastic’ in connection with the rally, the BJP leaders and activists seem to be unmoved. According to some INLD workers, the rally will be organised purely by the INLD and it will have no support of any other party. But an interesting fact that can become a cause of concern for the BJP leaders is the kind of treatment to be given to state BJP leaders who would also be present to welcome the Prime Minister. The BJP leadership of Haryana is also aware of the fact that a majority of party leaders have been criticising the state government directly and indirectly on its functioning. This ‘trend’ has picked up in the recent past. Although the BJP leadership has been declaring that its ‘support’ would continue to the Chautala government despite hurdles, the lower and middle-rung cadre has been facing humiliation from critics of the government who want the BJP to withdraw support in the wake of some “anti-people” decisions. The issues that have ‘rocked’ the state in the recent past have been hike in power rates, increase in house tax and levying charges on various services and professionals. The Haryana Beopar Mandal has given a call for Haryana bandh on March 5. While the Congress has extended its support, the BJP leaders have been silent. The ‘pressure’ on the BJP has also increased in view of the Opposition getting active. The Congress has announced two rallies in March, one by former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and the other by HPCC chief Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The HVP supremo and former Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, has also reportedly decided to hold a rally at Ballabgarh on March 4. According to experts, the BJP is the only party which is not holding a rally and the INLD has wrested the initiative from the BJP by inviting the PM at its rally. |

Philately exhibition peters
off Ambala, February 25 When the function came to an end at about 4.30 p.m. and visitors entered the hall, they were asked to leave, as the staff wanted to dismantle the frames. When this correspondent asked an official for this haste in wrapping up the exhibition, he was curtly told “Yeh exhibition teen din khula tha, tab kyon nahi dekha.” A family which had come from far, lamented that they had come to visit the philately exhibition and not attend a function. “Today, being a Sunday, we thought we would go to the exhibition late in the afternoon. The result was that we could not see this exhibition”, a visitor said. “What is the point of having an exhibition when people cannot see it, simply because a function is on. And why this hurry in closing the exhibition. If they were not interested in displaying these stamps, they could have simply made a brochure and handed it over to us. It is sad that an exhibition which could have been a good learning ground for my children, proved to be an exercise in futility for us, ” another irritated visitor said. Mr B.N. Som, Secretary, Department of Posts, was the chief guest in the prize distribution function. The bronze medals went to Maj R.N. Kaushal, M.L. Madan, Vikas Gupta, P.K.
