Accidents main cause for neurological problems
Tribune News Service

LUDHIANA, Feb 9 — Dr Kishen Chander, a leading neurologist based in Ohio in the USA, is of the opinion that in India most of the neurological problems are caused by motor accidents.

Dr Chander, who is an alumini of Christian Medical College (CMC) here, revealed that in comparative terms there were 10 times more accidents in India than in the USA and the accidents were the main cause of various neurological disorders.

Giving details about the latest developments in neurology, Dr Chander said the alzheimer’s disease which leads to degeneration of cells in old age was likely to be cured as the experiments on pigs had yielded positive results.

The eminent neurologist from the USA expressed optimism over rectifying various disorders by gene mapping. He disclosed that gene mapping could help in replacing the defective genes in the chromosomes which could be injected by a virus. This could also help in developing certain required traits among human beings. He said an Indian girl was treated by gene mapping of a dreaded disease recently.

Dr Chander, who was here on a five-week tour delivering lectures on the latest developments in neurology, said while Indian students were getting good clinical training, there was still a great scope for improving the fundamentals.
