Woman murdered, 3 held
NEW DELHI, Jan 10 (FOC)
— An agent of a private company, Deepa (30), was
allegedly strangled by three persons who reportedly came to her house
to collect money for a religious function in the Ashok Nagar area of
East Delhi. The police said a colleague of the victim, Venod Pant, who
came to discuss some official problem with her, found that the main
gate was bolted from inside. When he knocked at the door the suspects
came out and told him to enter the house. He found Deepa was lying
dead on bed. He alerted the neighbours who caught the suspects and
handed them over to the police. They have been identified as Jaswant
Singh (23), Amit Singh (26) and Nirmal Singh (23).
Plan for national park around Taj Mahal
AGRA, Jan 10 (PTI) —
A Rs 200-crore plan for the development of a national park around
the Taj Mahal is being considered for implementation by the Uttar
Pradesh Ministry of Tourism. The plan, prepared by Illinois
University, USA, provides for intensive aforestation and
beautification of nearly 400 acres from the Agra Fort to the Taj and
the area on both sides of the Yamuna up to Rambagh.
Mahila manch holds rally
DEHRA DUN, Jan 10 (FOC)
— Hundreds of members of the Uttaranchal Mahila
Manch took out a march in the streets of the capital on Monday
protesting against the poor performance of the state government. They
raised slogans against the government and read an “open letter”
declaring a second “andolan” to protect the rights of the hill
folk. Addressing the rally, Mr Shamsher Singh Bisht, Coordinator,
Uttarakhand Coordination Committee, announced full support to the
manch in its struggle against the Swami government. He attacked the
government saying that it had failed to fulfil the wishes of the hill
folk.
