12 burnt alive as tanker explodes
KANPUR, Jan 7 (UNI) — At least 12 persons were burnt alive and six others injured when a gas tanker exploded after colliding with a stationary truck near Bara village under the Akbarpur police station in nearby Kanpur Dehat district today. A police spokesman said the mishap occurred when the gas tanker proceeding towards Bhoganipur from Kanpur rammed into a truck near Bara village.

Minister gheraoed
VIJAYAWADA, Jan 7 (UNI) — As many as 17 (CPM) workers, including former Deputy Mayor V Umamaheswara Rao and local Congress leader P. Sominaidu, were taken into custody for gheraoing Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister V. Sobhanadreswara Rao for more than an hour here today.

Tremors in Kerala
CHENNAI, Jan 7 (PTI) — Tremors shook several parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu this morning, killing a two-year-old child and injuring two persons and damaging some buildings.
