Paramjeet creates new record CHANDIGARH, Dec 11— Puran Chand of SGGS College, and Mayank Bhushan of DAV College, Chandigarh, secured first place in the 5000 metres and broad jump, respectively, on the first day of the Panjab University Annual Athletic Meet for men and women held on the university campus today. Paramjeet Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, created a new record in 5000 metres which was held earlier by Amarjit Kaur of the same college last year. The other results are; Men-5000m:

Xavier’s beat Tender Heart CHANDIGARH: The hosts, St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, outplayed Tender Heart School, Sector 33, by five wickets in the ICSE schools’ cricket tournament being played here on Monday. Brief scores: Tender Heart-33: 77 all out in 17.3 overs (Sumit 17, Gunkaran 12, Girish 5 for 19). St Xavier’s-44: 79 for five in 15.4 overs (Bhavya 19 n.o., Girish 12, Sumit 2 for 10).
CHANDIGARH: The Baseball Association, Chandigarh, will hold UT Senior State Baseball Championship for men and women on December 16 and 17 at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23. Entries close with Mr Tilak Raj Kaila, secretary of the association on December 15. The players will be selected on the basis of this championship for the 15th Senior National Baseball Championship to be held at Hyderabad from December 27 to 31.

Information centre for NCC cadets CHANDIGARH, Dec 11— An information and motivation centre has been set up in the premises of No.1 Chandigarh Girls NCC Battalion here. This will benefit about 1000 cadets from city schools and college enrolled in the Army, Navy and Air wings of the NCC. The centre was inaugurated by the Director, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC Directorate, Lt Col V.J.S. Boparai today. The battalion’s Commanding Officer, Lt Col Harjit Singh was also present on the occasion. Information pertaining to all aspects of NCC training, including activities like annual training camps, national integration camps, adventure activities and youth exchange programmes is available at the centre. With a view to motivate cadets to opt for a career in the armed forces, information regarding the eligibility and procedures for joining different services is also available at the centre. While posters, charts and folders for the purpose are displayed in the centre, detailed information can also be accessed by cadets from a computer placed there. Meanwhile, a six-week training capsule on computer use is also being conducted for Army personnel and civilian staff posted with the battalion. Training is being imparted in DOS and MS Office software packages. |
