Roller skating meet gets off to
colourful start

Nov 30 — The first CBSE national roller skating championship got off to a glittering start today at Kailash Bahl DAV Centenary School, Sector 7, with the formal opening done by Lieut-Gen (retd) JFR Jacob, Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator. The inaugural ceremony included ‘tilak’ ceremony, flying of pigeons and balloons by the chief guest, marchpast by participants and colourful dance items by school children. General Jacob said NCC should be made compulsory in all schools. Mehak of the host school was first in one of the rink race heats in under-11 section. In other heats, Shipra Nayyar of DAV Public School, Amritsar, and Gulrajan Singh of Baba Ganda Singh Public School, Barnala, were first. Among boys, those who secured first place in heats were Anant Vidur Puri from St John’s High School, Sector 26, and Manjeet Singh of KB DAV School, Sector 7.
Shruti shinesShruti Dhawan helped Government College for Girls, Sector 11 in winning the Panjab University inter-college tennis (women) championship. They overpowered MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, 2-1. In first singles, Shruti outplayed Ridhi 6-0, 6-0. Arushi of GCG lost to Tripti 4-6, 3-6 , In doubles, Shruti and Reeti defeated Ridhi and Tripti 6-0, 6-2.
MP win trophyThe two-day All-India School Education Board employees sports meet concluded at Shivalik Public School, SAS Nagar with Madhya Pradesh winning the overall trophy. Sudarshan Singh of Haryana and Naib Singh of Punjab Board were adjudged best player in hockey and Kabaddi, respectively. The other results are, badminton:
