Jalandhar win district meet

LUDHIANA, Nov 17 — Jalandhar won the Punjab School Inter-District Cricket Tournament here today. In the final, Jalandhar defeated Patiala in a one-sided match by 77 runs.

Jalandhar won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 236 runs in 25 overs and lost eight wickets. Patiala could score only 159 all out in 23.1 overs. Ishan of Jalandhar scored 39 runs off 13 balls with the help of three sixes and four fours. Amarjeet, Pankaj, Sunny, Gaurav and Amit scored 24,36,31,22 and 36 runs, respectively for Jalandhar. Jalandhar bowlers Rajesh and Naval took three and two wickets respectively while Amarjeet, Vikrant, Sameer and Sunny chipped in with one wicket each.

For the Hardline Cup, Muktsar defeated Gurdaspur by three wickets. Gurdaspur won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 140 all out in 25 overs. Muktsar scored 144 runs in 24 overs and lost seven wickets.

Handball meet

The 27th Senior Punjab Handball Champion-ship for men and women is scheduled to be held from November 24 to 26 at outdoor stadium, Hoshiarpur. According to a press release issued here today by Mr S.S. Channy, President, Punjab Handball Association, “about 30 teams are participating in the tournament.” Punjab teams for the 27th Senior National Champion-ship to be held in the second week of January, 2001 at Bhilai and Women National Championship to be held in the last week of December, will be selected on the basis of the players performance.

Course begins at police academy

LUDHIANA, Nov 17 — A three-day course for GOs on inspection and supervision got underway at Punjab Police Academy here yesterday. The focus of the course is on the various issues relating to inspection and to acquaint the officers with various elements of supervision and other duties of GOs at the supervisory level.

Inaugurating the course at PPA, Phillaur Mr Praveen Sinha, IPS, Dy. Director (Outdoor) Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur said that police officers should acquaint themselves with the latest laws relating with inspection and supervision in addition to their duties of maintaining law and order in society. He also stressed upon the need for understanding the laws relating to computer crime and cyber crime for a police officer.

Participating officers had interactions on the topic of inspection of police station and effective supervisory tool, village touring, writing of ACRs, inspection of district police office, use of information technology for supervision, prevention of human right violation-role of supervisory officer, with many senior working and retired police officers.

The course has been designed under the guidance of Mr A A Siddiqui, IPS, ADGP-cum-Director, PPA, Phillaur. The Director PPA expressed that it was necessary for police officers to re-orient themselves and stress upon the need of values.

In the inaugural session, Mrs Anita Punj, IPS, DD(I) PPA, welcomed the chief guest and participants of this course and emphasised the need for understanding the laws and methods of inspection and supervision for a police officer.
