Homoeo treatment for family discords
From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, Nov 7 — Conflict or ‘power struggle’ among mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law has defied solution for ages and has predictably produced some lighter moments in television serials or in popular literature. A local study circle which discusses diseases and their remedies on the first Sunday of every month held a talk by Dr K. N. Sharma yesterday on “Management through homoeopathy of power struggle between daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law.”

Dr Sharma said in homoeopathy symptoms of the mind were important in recommending a medicine. The mother-in-law-daughter-in-law conflict, he said, arose because of particular symptoms in one or both of them, making them incompatible with each other. For example, the doctor said, a ‘Lyco’ daughter-in-law (or a mother-in-law) was intolerant, defiant, indolent and had a suspicious nature. A ‘Lyco’ daughter-in-law could live better in a nuclear family with a submissive husband, he added.

Daughters-in-law with symptoms of ‘Pulsatilla’ would like to go to their parents’ homes to seek sympathy and ask them to resolve their disputes.

A patient suffering from ‘Platina’ would like to remain at her parental home even after marriage, to continue her amorous affairs and such patients would even kill their husbands or get them murdered. Daughters-in-law with symptoms of ‘Aurum’ pathology had suicidal tendencies.

‘Natrimure’ daughters-in-law, he opined, had a sympathetic nature and would not like to hurt anyone or be hurt in return. They would take up humanitarian causes. ‘Causticum’ patients also had a sympathetic attitude, but they would fight for their rights. A person with symptoms of ‘Sepia’ would be from irritable and indifferent. They could be malicious, cruel and particularly hurtful to their near ones, he said.

Dr Sharma said the key to sorting out the problems between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law lay in treating the symptoms of one or both of them. Administration of correct homoeopathic medicines, he said, could bring about a dramatic change in their behaviour and result in better relationship between them. For example, ‘Lyco’ patients would become more positive and tolerant, and less defiant, after treatment, he added.

Dr Ravindra Kochar, Principal of Mahavira Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, who is also the president of the study circle, spoke about the health problems prevalent in the city.
