Bhavan Vidyalaya, Dev Samaj enter semis

CHANDIGARH, Oct 5 — Hosts IS Dev Samaj Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, and Bhawan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, entered the last four of the Shriman Ishwar Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament today.

In today's matches, ISDSSS-21 outplayed Guru Teg Bahadur School, Sector 15, 71-6, GGSSS-18 beat Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, 32-7, GMSSS-16 defeated DAV Model School, Sector 15, 17-9, GGSSS-8 made short work of GTB School, Sector 15, 24-8 and BV-27 got the better of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, 17-8.

Inter-college basketball: DAV College, Hoshiarpur, won the Panjab University inter-college basketball championship, while Government College for Women, Ludhiana, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, and Government College for Girls, Sector 11, were placed second, third and fourth, respectively.

Panchkula triumph: Despite a knock of 89 runs by Amit Bhardwaj of Chandigarh, Panchkula beat Chandigarh in the first match of the Haryana inter-district cricket tournament at Mansa Devi Complex. Brief scores: Panchkula — 242 for 5 in 35 overs (Rajesh Patha 67, Inderjit Saini 55, Bhupinder Sandhu 36, Ashish Sharma 36, Vineet Jain 22, Randhir Nain 2 for 36); Chandigarh — 232 all out in 33.5 overs (Amit Bhardwaj 89, Ramandeep 54, R.P. Singh 25, M.P. Singh 21, Rajesh Patha 3 for 35, Vineet Jain 3 for 40, Inderjit Saini 2 for 28, Girish Bhanot 2 for 40).

Anshul shines: Anshul helped Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, beat Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, by 77 runs in the UT inter-school cricket tournament for Shivalik Trophy at Sector 16 cricket stadium. Brief scores: GMSSS-35 — 161 for 9 in 25 overs (Anshul 46, Shah Nawaj 35, Gagan 5 for 10, Gurjeet 3 for 25); GMSSS-23 — 84 for 9 in 25 overs (Amit Tewari 21, Ulhas 15, Anshul 5 for 20, Balwar Singh 2 for 11).

In another match, St Stephen's School, Sector 45, beat Shishu Niketan Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, by 10 runs. Yoga trials

The Chandigarh Amateur Yoga Association will hold trials to select the UT team for the National Yoga Championship on October 8 at Parshuram Bhavan, Sector 37.

Cricket tourney

Eight teams will take part in the JAL Cup league cricket tournament, which will be held at the PGI grounds from October 8.
