Pasricha is Arya Vidya Parishad gen secy

LUDHIANA, Aug 30 — Mr Om Parkash Tandon, a retired principal, has been appointed as acting general secretary of the Arya Vidya Parishad by Dr K.K. Pasricha, acting president of the organisation. Mr Ashwani Kumar, advocate, a former general secretary, was suspended by Dr Pasricha for alleged irregularities committed by him. After his suspension, Mr Ashwani Kumar, Principal, Doaba College, Jalandhar, was appointed as acting general secretary. However, Mr Ashwani Kumar, expressed his inabilty to continue as acting general secretary and thus new appointment took place.

This was stated in a press note issued by Mr B.K. Verma, Principal, Arya Senior Secondary School. It was further stated that a meeting of Antrang Sabha which was scheduled for August 27 had been cancelled under the instructions of Dr Pasricha and president Mr Harbans Lal Sharma. But contrary to the instructions, the meeting was held by the suspended general secretary, Mr Ashwani Kumar. In meeting which was not held at the sabha office, he appointed new office-bearers and expelled elected president Mr Harbans Lal Sharma and elected acting president, Dr Pasricha.

It was further stated that the expulsion of the president and the acting president made by the suspended general secretary was illegal and unconstitutional and that disciplinary action was expected to be taken against those members of the Antra g Sabha who attended the illegal meeting called by the suspended general secretary.

Dance competition for 'Nirdosh' kids

LUDHIANA, Aug 30 — Students of "Nirdosh", a school for mentally challenged children, run by the Inner Wheel Club of Ludhiana, danced with gay abandon to the strains of popular songs such as "Tunak Tunak" and "Maine payal hai chchankai" at a dance competition held in the school here today.

After a prayer Ms Veena Bhandari, president of the club, called the house to order and the secretary of the club, Ms Manjula Jain, informed the house that "Nirdosh" was doing well, despite a shortage of funds.

The chief guest, Mr Rajeev Raizada, in his address quoted Mr J.R.D. Tata to say that the most significant contribution organised industry could make was to identify itself with the life and problems of the people.

Isha, Sahil and Prabhdeep won the first, second and third prizes in the dance competition. In the fancy dress competition the prizes were won by Gagan, Prince and Arjun. The prizes were sponsored by Sri Ram Finance and Camlin. Dr Tah of Sutlej Hospital offered medical services to the students.
