arrives in Pak for talks
ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 — Japanese
Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori arrived in Islamabad today for a two-day visit.
He is likely to focus on demands that Pakistan freeze nuclear tests as a
precondition for resumption of economic aid.

KANPUR, Aug 20 — The Kanpur
police nabbed 29 more persons during the past 24 hours and recovered 132
crude bombs from their possession, even as the ongoing searches in
different parts of the city continued for the fourth day today.

KURUKSHETRA, Aug 20 — The
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Dr Hoshiar Singh
Sihag, is in trouble. Allegations have been levelled that when he was
the Chairman of the Department of Public Administration in 1994 he
claimed excess amount as travelling allowance for attending a conference
in Berlin.

girls shed inhibitions
HISAR, Aug 20 — A silent
revolution is sweeping the countryside in Haryana where a new generation
of ruralites is betraying signs of breaking sexual taboos and even
indulging licentious behaviour. Reports from rural areas indicate that
though the bigger villages situated near towns are more affected the
revolution has not spared remote villages either.
Deaths
up by 500 per cent in 20 years
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 —
There has been more than 500 per cent increase in road accident deaths
in Punjab during the past 20 years. Against 472 deaths in 1980, nearly
2,800 persons lost their lives while travelling on roads during
1999-2000.
