Bogus voting, hooliganism mark Mohali civic poll
SAS NAGAR, Aug 20 — Blatant misuse of power and hooliganism marked the polling to the 23 wards of the SAS Nagar Municipal Council which was held amidst complaints of bogus voting by supporters of candidates in different wards of the council here today.

Colleges flout university rules
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — Most of the colleges affiliated to Panjab University, including many colleges in Chandigarh, are not following a large number of basic rules laid down by the university. 

Classrooms no longer deserted
WHAT principals of government and private schools and colleges jointly failed to achieve since the inception of the Union Territory — ensure presence of Class XI and Class XII students in classrooms — the Director of Public Instructions of Chandigarh, Mr D.S. Saroya, has achieved within weeks, thanks to his determination and novel method of admissions and teaching that he evolved and implemented.

CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — Gurdial Singh, the Jnanpith award winner for the ongoing year, was today honoured by the Punjab Arts Council for his contributions to the field of Punjabi literature, especially story telling.

Shooting begins for TV quiz on Sikhism
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — The shooting for a TV serial based on a quiz contest on Sikh history, religion and culture began in Technical Teachers Training Institute here today. The serial which has been conceptualised by TV producer and director Veena Kapoor, is being shot in association with the Gurmat Parsad Seva Society.

‘‘Dead’’ landlady appears in court
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — Mr Justice Swatantar Kumar of the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued show cause notice for contempt for September 4 to an advocate couple Baldev Singh Bhullar and Mrs Shiv Charan Kaur for misrepresenting before the court that their NRI landlady, Mrs Surjit Kaur, had died.

Nature cure centre inaugurated
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — Chronic diseases will now be treated in the city itself and for once the treatment will be based in natural concepts. The very first nature cure centre of the city was inaugurated here today in Sector 9.

MCI members to inspect GMCH
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — As many as 11 members of the Medical Council of India will be visiting various departments of Sector 32 Government Medical College and Hospital in the next few days to inspect the infrastructure available, before giving a final approval to start the MD/MS courses from the next academic session.

Isha, Siddharth corner glory
CHANDIGARH, Aug 20 — The three-day swimming tournament organised by UT Sports Department concluded here this evening at Sector 23 swimming pool with Isha Kalia and Siddharth Sehdev winning the 100 metre freestyle in girls and boys sections respectively. Isha clocked timings of 1:19.20 while Siddharth of 1:13.65. More than 100 swimmers in various categories took part in this meet.Top
