Ads of nursing homes unethical: IMA
From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, July 3 — The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana, has warned the medical community not to publish advertisements as it is unethical. The Medical Council Act referred to as Medical Council Indian Act 1956 and the relevant section guiding the professional conduct of the physician under Sections 20-A (1) and (2) lays down the provision of violation of the professional conduct and constitutes infamous conduct in professional respect. This Act makes every physician responsible for safeguarding the interests of the medical profession by exposing unethical conduct of some of its members .

The state president in its letter to the president of IMA Ludhiana, Dr Gursharan Singh, has requested to guide all those doctors who are advertising their nursing homes like consumer commodities must stop immediately, thereby not only going against the law, but also against the ethics, because such advertisements mislead the patients.

The state president has taken a serious view of the advertisement of a local doctor. He warned that if it did not stop immediately, the state IMA would recommend action against the doctor through IMA headquarters to Medical Council of India. The punishment in such a case could amount to debarring from practicing medicine.

Mr Gursharan Singh has also requested all his colleagues not to indulge in such activities and immediately withdraw their advertisements from Citi cable and the print media. A letter in this regard is also being written to Citi cable TV channel to stop such advertisements as they are not doing any good for the society.
