AMRITSAR
FUNCTION: The annual prize distribution function of Spring Dale Senior School was held on Tuesday. Prizes were given to meritorious students by Mr G.P.S. Sahi, Principal Secretary, Higher Education.

FATEHGARH SAHIB
STONE LAID: Mr B.S. Sudan, Deputy Commissioner, on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the district Sainik Rest House here. He said the rest house would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore.

FAZILKA
ARRESTED: The Sadar police has arrested Amar Singh and recovered two rifles, one pistol and 16 cartridges from him at Arniwala village after a raid on his house on Tuesday. According to police sources, Amar Singh admitted during interrogation that he was involved in a number of crimes. A case under various sections of the Arms Act has been registered.

CRITICISED: Mr Madan Lal Kapoor, president, Punjab Beopar Mandal, has criticised the anti-traders’ policy of Local Bodies Minister Balramji Dass Tandon. He said the interest of the traders had been hit hard during the tenure of Mr Tandon.

GURDASPUR
NOMINATED: Mr Sikander Singh has been nominated as executive member of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, according to a letter issued to him by the PPCC President.

HOSHIARPUR
SEMINAR: The Bhai Ghanayiaji Mission here organised a seminar in connection with the Anti-Tobacco Day at JR Government Polytechnic in association with the district health authorities here on Wednesday.

ARRESTED: A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC on the complaint of Mr Surinder Singh, secretary of the Saini Bar Educational Committee, Bulhowal, against Bahadur Singh, former president of the committee, and was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a fraud committed by him regarding some Kisan Vikas Patras.

UNION: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Octroi Staff Union of municipal council here: president — Mr Mukhi Ram; senior vice-president — Mr Ashok Kumar Adia; vice-president — Mr Ashvani Kumar Anand; general secretary — Mr Nachhatar Lal, secretary — Mr Surjit Lal; and treasurer — Mr Harish Chander.

CAMP: A week-long free medical check-up camp will be organised by Ranjit Hospital on its premises from June 5 to 11. Medicines and treatment will be given free of cost to the patients.

WEBSITE: A website on the historic Baba Balak Nath Temple in the state has been developed by Mr Harsh Katoch, a computer engineer. Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal will inaugurate the site named jai babadi.com.

CASE REGISTERED: Immamudin (18) of Kila Rehmatgarh was allegedly murdered by certain persons on Ludhiana road here on Tuesday. A case has been registered under Section 302, IPC.

TRAFFIC RULES: Mr Pritam Singh, SDM, in a press note issued here on Wednesday has directed the municipal and PWD officials to mark the times of zebra crossing in front of the schools. He urged the Principals to daily teach 50 traffic rules to the students during morning assembly.

NDA RESULTS: Results of the written examination held by the Union Public Service Commission in October, 1999, and the interviews held by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence for the admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy, for the 104th course commencing from July 2000, has been declared. MC NOTICE: In continuation of its drive to curb wastage of water, the Municipal Corporation has sent notices to nearby 100 residents for violating water supply bye — laws. Motors, boosters and tullu pumps installed directly on the main supply lines were confiscated. While conducting the checking it was found that drinking water was being used for activities like irrigating lawns, washing vehicles and floors.

HONOURED: Mr Kuldip Kumar Arora, a local acupressure therapist, has been honoured by the Generation Saviour Association for his outstanding contribution in motivating people to quit smoking on the occasion of World Tobacco Day. He was awarded a gold medal at a function organised at Panjab University.

MEDICAL CAMP: A free medical check-up camp will be held on June 4 at EPF Colony, Sector 30-A (Guru Ravi Dass Gurdwara), by the Recreation Club of the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Office. The camp will start at 10 a.m. Doctors of allopathy, ayurvedic and homoeopathy will examine patients for various diseases, besides free check-up of eyes, a press note of the RPF Commissioner’s office said on Wednesday.

HARYANA

AMBALA
THREE DIE IN MISHAP: Three persons were killed and 24 injured when a Delhi-bound Haryana Roadways bus collided with a truck and a Tata Sumo near Pipli, 40 km from here, on Thursday. The injured were admitted to the Ambala City Civil Hospital. According to hospital sources, four of the injured, including three children, have been shifted to the PGI, Chandigarh. The post-mortem of the bodies were also conducted in the hospital. The deceased included Prakash Chand, a driver of the ill fated bus. The other deceased were not identified so far.

SONEPAT
RAID: The Taxation Department conducted a raid on the premises of a furniture house in New Colony here on Wednesday and seized certain increment documents related to the evasion of sales tax.

CAR RECOVERED: The police has recovered a Maruti car from Noida (UP) which was forcibly taken away from Mr Subodh Kumar of Sector 14 here on May 29.

KILLED: Jaiveer Singh, a scooterist, was killed on the spot when he was hit by a vehicle on the Kharkhauda-Delhi road between Saidpur and Ferozepore Bangar villages, about 25 km from here, on Wednesday. A case has been registered.

DISTRIBUTED: Mr Raj Singh Dahiya, chairman of the Sonepat Zila Parishad, gave away school uniforms to 100 Dalit children free of cost at a function held here on Wednesday.

SHIMLA
AGITATION WITHDRAWN: The local Beopar Mandal withdrew its five-day old agitation against the holding of an exhibition at the Rani Jhansi Park following talks with Mr Narinder Bragta, Horticulture Minister, here on Wednesday. Mr Bragta assured them that such exhibitions would not be held at the park in future.

SUNDERNAGAR
