Government to acquire additional land for Anandgarh
CHANDIGARH, May 15 — The Punjab Government intends to acquire additional land for the Anandgarh city. A notification to acquire land in 29 villages had already been issued and another notification to acquire land in at least seven villages for the project is likely to be issued soon by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

CHANDIGARH, May 15 — Within five days of the demolition of illegal jhuggis in Sector 31, small ramshackle tin sheds have sprouted afresh as encroachers are trying to re-established their kiosks to sell fruits, vegetables and cigarettes.

MC to dig 3 deep tubewells
DERA BASSI, May 15 — To meet water shortage in the township, the municipal council has decided to dig three deep tubewells at the cost of about Rs 50 lakh. Boring of a tubewell on the Gulabgarh road has already been started by the civic body.

CHANDIGARH, May 15 — The Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, today, recommended the sectorwise imposition of the monthly rental of Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 on each multisystem cable operators and small cable operators of the city, respectively.

Workshop on theatre fails to begin
CHANDIGARH, May 15 — Despite wide publicity, a workshop on theatre, modelling, dance, music and fine art failed to start today at its scheduled time of 5 p.m. Banners had been put up outside the proposed venue, Guru Harkrishan Model School in Sector 38, announcing about the workshop.

Proposal for 6 more courses at GMCH
CHANDIGARH, May 15 — Six other departments of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, have been found eligible for starting postgraduate courses following clarification of certain rules of the Medical Council of India. With this, a total of 11 departments have been recommended for starting these courses.

CHANDIGARH, May 15 — A day-long seminar was held today on “Nurse always there for you” as part of the Celebration of International Nurses Week. Speakers highlighted the role played by a nurse in hospital, home, community, school and industry.

CHANDIGARH, May 15 — A superb performance by left-hander Amit Uniyal who scored an unbeaten 73 runs in 60 deliveries, besides getting four wickets for eight runs, helped Life Insurance Corporation of India XI beat Royal Cricket Academy by 34 runs in the second Samsung League Tournament at the Sector 12 grounds here today.
