FEROZEPORE

GURDASPUR
POWER THEFT: Official of the Punjab State Electricity Board, Gurdaspur circle, conducted a surprise inspection of a cold storage at Qadian on Thursday and detected power theft. The PSEB authorities imposed a fine of Rs 2.29 lakh and disconnected the power connection till the recovery of the fine.

SUSPENDED: Mr B. Vikram, Deputy Commissioner, in a press note released here on Friday said as many as licences of 35 commission agents dealing in foodgrains had been suspended and 175 commission agents issued show-cause notices during procurement of wheat in this district in current season.

HOSHIARPUR
FUND RELEASED: Mr Charanjit Singh Channi, MP, has released Rs 1.66 crore from his discretionary fund to all nine assembly segments of the Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency for various development works. This was stated in a press note released on Thursday.

LUDHIANA
WHEAT PROCUREMENT: The district has recorded 17 per cent increase in wheat procurement. Till Wednesday as many as 6.91 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased in the district against 6 lakh tonnes of wheat purchased during the whole season last year. This was stated by Mr S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner, on Thursday. He said 93 per cent wheat had been purchased by the government agencies.

MOGA
REVENUE STAMPS: There is resentment among litigants in the district over a shortage of revenue stamp papers of small denomination. A number of them said here on Thursday that they were forced to buy these revenue stamp papers of higher values as a result of this.

CHANDIGARH

NEW REGISTRAR: The Administrator of Chandigarh has given the charge of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to Ms Varsha Joshi, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Housing Board, in addition to her own duties with immediate effect. 

BAN LIFTED: The Director, Health Services-cum-Food (Health) Authority, has lifted the ban on the sale of Hafed Agmark mustard oil grade-I in packed condition in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, including Mani Majra.

PRICES FIXED: The Food and Supplies Department has refixed the wholesale and retail prices of wholemeal atta of 10 kg packs for the above poverty line and the naked grain wheat for below poverty line consumers. The wholesale and retail price of 10 kg wholemeal atta are Rs 97.25 and Rs 101.20, respectively. Similarly, for naked grain wheat, the wholesale and retail prices would be Rs 462.70 (excluding sales tax) and Rs 487.06 per quintal. 

RELEASED: The first issue of Ad Infinitum 2000, the college magazine of SUS College of Engineering and Technology, Tangori (SAS Nagar), was released by Mr N.S. Rattan, Principal Secretary, Technical Education and Industrial Training, Punjab, and Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, on Thursday. The student editor, English section, is Ms Shivani Kumar, while the Hindi and Punjabi sections have been edited by Mr Saurabh Gupta, Ms Jasleen Kaur and Ms Manpreet Sodhi.

Meanwhile, the third annual summer school programme of Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, will begin for children in the age group of 4 to 16 on May 22.

REFRESHER COURSE: Dr K.C. Banger, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheswhar University on Thursday inaugurated a month-long refresher course on educational technology organised by the Academy of Agricultural Research and Education Management. The course is being attended by about 30 teachers and scientists.

SONEPAT
ELECTROCUTED: Dharamvir, a safai worker, was reportedly electrocuted while working at the HSIDC complex at Kundli village along the Haryana-Delhi border, about 25 km from here, on Thursday.

YAMUNANAGAR
ZILA PARISHAD CHIEF: Mr Ami Lal was unanimously elected Chairman of the local Zila Parishad here on Thursday. Mr Chander Pal Sharma, Azizpur was elected the Vice-Chairman.
