BATHINDA
Controversy:
Dr Nitin Kumar, President of the State Veterinary Officer's Association, said here on Tuesday that there was no controversy over the president of the state body. According to him, Mr G.S. Chahal was president of the association and news regarding his removal from the post were false.

BATALA
Body found:
The Derababa Nanak police on Sunday fished out the body of Harmesh Singh (45) from a nullah in Udhowali village. Investigations revealed that he had fallen into the nullah under influence of liquor and died.

GURDASPUR
Theft:
The police has arrested an inter-state gang involved in thefts of cattle from Punjab meant for slaughter house at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. According to Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP, Tarsem Masih Fazal Masih and Harwinder Singh were arrested and some head of cattle were recovered from them. A case under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC was registered.

Protest rally: Residents of Bhabra village and its surrounding areas held a rally at Nehru Park here on Tuesday to protest against the murder of a Dalit girl. They presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and demanded stern action against the culprit.

Appointed: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Inner Wheel Club: President — Mr Balwinder Gill, Vice-President — Ms Sunita Kapoor, General Secretary — Mr Prem Gupta, Joint Secretary —Ms Neelam Mahant and Treasurer — Ms Santosh Khosla.

HOSHIARPUR
Body found:
The body of a 15-year-old girl, a resident of Fatehgarh village, was recovered by the police report on Tuesday. The body was later sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Ban imposed: The District Magistrate, Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, has imposed prohibit order under Section 144 of the CrPC throughout the district and has banned the assembly of more then five persons, taking out of processions and carrying of fire Arms in public places. The order will remain in force till November 9.

JALANDHAR
Electrocuted:
A teenaged girl was allegedly electrocuted by her three relatives in Ali Chak village on Sunday, the police said. Usha Rani, mother of Kuldip Kaur, 17, alleged that her husband's younger brother Nachattar Singh and mother-son duo of Nasibo and Santokh Singh had electrocuted her daughter. The police has registered a case of murder under Sections 302, 34 of the IPC against the three.

LUDHIANA
DA release:
State Employees and Pensioners Association in a communication to the Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, on Saturday has sought the release of additional DA instalment before Dasehra at the rate of 5 per cent with effect from July. They said the Central Government had already sanctioned the DA instalment for its staff and pensioners and it would be paid in cash along with the salary or pension of September.

Robbery:
Five armed men on Monday reportedly entered the house of Swaran Singh at Channuwala village and decamped with some cash, ornaments and other valuables.

PHAGWARA
Accident:
A scooterist, Kanwaljit Singh (40), was crushed to death by a private bus on the GT Road near the bus stand here.

Painting competition:
The Child Development Council, Patiala will organise a block-level spot painting competition here on Thursday. Student of different age groups from the government and private schools of the subdivision will participate in the competition. Mr Sher Singh Sidhu, SDM, will be the chief guest said Mr Amrish Kumar Jain, Child Development Project Officer, Dera Bassi.

Saplings planted:
The local branch of the State Bank of India (SBI), organised a tree plantation programme within the premises of Bhavan Vidyalaya School in Sector 15 on Tuesday. Mr NS Nayar, Chief Manager, SBI, presided over the function. About 50 saplings of various plant varieties were planted on the occasion.

Projects reviewed: The Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula, Mr Vivek Joshi on Tuesday reviewed several development and social welfare projects implemented by various departments in district. The projects reviewed at the meeting included family welfare programmes, small savings, study material for Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes, tree plantation, flood control, anti-encroachment drive on national and state highways, aid programme to rehabilitate widows, Shivalik development project, district Red Cross Society programmes, child welfare, literacy drive etc.top

Quiz competition:
The Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a quiz competition for school-children as MM College here on Tuesday. The competition was sponsored by the State Bank of India.

Camp: The Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a camp for the preparation of jam and squashes at Green Valley Public school on Tuesday. Mrs Sunita Gavri imparted training to as many as 80 women on the occasion.

Attack: The Akhil Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union on Tuesday criticised the reported attack on Dalits at Kakroli village in Bhiwani district and demanded the arrest of the culprits.

Traffic blocked:
Students of the local Jat College on Monday blocked traffic on the main road in protest against the police "inaction" in apprehending kidnappers of Rakesh, a class VIII student of Saraswati Vidya Mandir here. The road block was lifted after the Deputy Superintendent of Police rushed to the spot and assured the students that the culprits would be arrested soon.

Sanitation drive:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Rastogi, has directed the municipal authorities to launch a sanitation drive here on Tuesday. He said the general Manager of the Haryana Roadways on Monday, The Sub-Divisional Magistrate on Tuesday the City Magistrate on Wednesday, the District Revenue Officer on Thursday, the District Development and Panchayat Officer on Friday and the Tehsildar on Saturday would supervise the campaign.

SONEPAT
Suicide:
The body of a 25-year-old man was found hanging from a tree on the Sonepat-Murthal road near Kailash colony here on Monday. The cause of the death in not known.

Medical camp: A free medical check-up camp will be organised at a private hospital on the Sonepat-Delhi road near HUDA office of this city on September 19. Medicines free of cost will be distributed.

Clash: Five students were injured, three of them seriously, in a clash between two rival groups, which took place the the G.T. Road near Hassanpur Kurar village, 10 km from here, on Monday.

Suitcase stolen: Ms Sudha, a student of the CR College of Engineering, Murthal was deprived of her suitcase at the bus stand here on Monday.

Motor cycle snatched: Three car-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a motor cycle from an Army subedar, Mr Raj Singh, on the Farmana- Gohana road near Bhainswal Kalan village, 25 km from here, on Monday. top

Burgled:
Robbers burgled the house of Balkrishan Sharma, a resident of Katrain village, 20 km from here, and decamped with some cash. A case under Sections 457 and 330 of the IPC has been registered.

Cremated:
Freedom fighter, Hira Singh Pal, who died on Sunday after a prolonged illness at the PGI, Chandigarh, was cremated at his native village, Dumehar, 45 km from here, on Monday.
