Coimbatore blasts accused held
COIMBATORE, Sept 7 (PTI) — Zakir Hussain, one of the key accused in the serial bomb blasts in the city in February, 1998, and one of his close associates, Siddiq Ali, were arrested early this morning by the police at Madurai. Hussain, who carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, was arrested at the Madurai bus stand by a special police team from Coimbatore, Police Commissioner K. Radhakrishnan told reporters here.

Air Marshal Inamdar
NEW DELHI, Sept 7 (PTI) — Air Marshal S.G. Inamdar will take over as the Deputy Chief of Air Staff, a Defence Ministry spokesman said today. Air Marshal Inamdar, who is a senior Air Staff Officer of the Central Air Command at present, will be replaced by Air Marshal V.K. Verma, he said. Both postings will come into effect from October 1.

BANGALORE, Sept 7 (UNI) — The police has arrested the Deputy Director of the Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra, Mr Mohan Ram, and four others for illegally copying programmes and has seized over 300 original video cassettes of Doordarshan from them. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) K.S. Suresh Babu told reporters here that recording equipment worth Rs 30 lakh had also been recovered from them.

Israeli attack
BAALBEK (Lebanon), Sept 7 (Reuters) — Israeli warplanes today attacked suspected Hizbollah positions in north-eastern Lebanon, witnesses and security sources said. They said the jets hit the Hermel area near the Syrian border. Ambulances were seen heading to the scene. Hizbollah is leading a war of attrition to drive out Israel from a 15-km deep zone it occupies in South Lebanon.

Dara's aide held
BARIPADA, Sept 7 (PTI) — An associate of Dara Singh, prime accused in the killing of Australian missionary Graham Staines, was arrested from a village in Orissa's Mayurbhanj district last night, police sources said today. Dara's associate Rajkishore Mahant was arrested during a raid on Purunapani village where they had gone to nab the former.

13 die in Athens quake
ATHENS, Sept 7 (Reuters) — A strong earthquake shook Athens today, killing at least 13 persons, three of them children, and leaving more than 100 persons trapped in the rubble of collapsed factories and apartment blocks. The police said emergency services were working to free an estimated 70 workers from a factory in the Metamorphosi suburb, one of the worst hit areas.
