FEROZEPORE
Sarpanches' election:
The election process for 10 of sarpanches and 115 panches in the district will start from November 15. According to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Kulbir Singh Sidhu, the ADC (Development), the District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) and the Block Development Officers and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) concerned would be the DRO, the ARO and the ROs, respectively. The notification for the by-election would be issued on November 15. Nomination papers could be filed up to November 18 in office of the BDPO concerned. The scrutiny of papers would be done on November 19 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations would be November 20. The polling would be held on November 28 between 8 am and 4 pm.

KAPURTHALA
Inquiry ordered:
Mr Iqbal Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, had ordered an inquiry into the death of Pritam Kaur (74) of Jatpura Mohalla, who had died on Saturday. According to a report lodged with police by the family of the deceased, she committed suicide as she was mentally upset. But Mrs Shanta Kapoor, "member of Parvarik Panchayat alleged it was a case of murder.

LUDHIANA
Book released:
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, on Monday released a book "Yug Purush Baba Banda Bahadur" by Mr Surjit Singh Albela. A function was held at Punjabi Bhavan on the occasion.

MOGA
Four-laning of road:
The Punjab Education Minister, Mr Tota Singh, said here on Monday that the state government had decided to start the construction work on four-laning of the 110-km-long road linking Moga with Chandigarh. He was addressing a meeting in connection with Vishvakarma Day on the premises of Vishvakarma Bhavan here.

Corrupt officials: The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, has reaffirmed his resolve to curb corruption in government departments. Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, Mr Badal said all heads of districts had been asked to help in weeding out the corrupt and the inefficient.top

Vishvakarma Day:
The Dera Bassi Industrial Focal Point Association celebrated Vishvakarma Day by organising 'havan yajna' on the premises of the newly-constructed ESI Dispensary on Monday. Besides the members of the association and their families, employees of industrial units also participated in the havan. Mr Atul Sehgal, President of the association, urged the congregation to organise such functions in future for the welfare of the units, according to Mr R.C. Kalia, General Secretary of the association.

KHARAR
Protest march: Employees of the city’s and sub-urban subdivisions of the Punjab State Electricity Board in Kharar, under the banner of the Technical Services Union, took out a protest march here on Tuesday against the Punjab Government. The march began from Khanpur Division Office and passed through various parts of Kharar.

New SHO: Mr G.P. Singh, newly appointed SHO of Kharar, assured the mediapersons that he would try his best to maintain law and order in the area. He was talking to them after taking over the charge in a formal meeting held here on Tuesday. top

REWARI
Resentment:
Residents of seven newly established colonies of the city led by the Congress legislator, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. They said a former Congress MP, Rao Inderjit Singh, had granted Rs 2 lakh from the MP's Development Fund while an additional amount of Rs 2 lakh had been sanctioned by the state government for carrying out development work in these colonies. However, not a single penny was spent for these colonies.

ROHTAK
Gamblers arrested:
The district police has arrested four persons on charge of gambling at Kalanaur town near here. According to police sources, the suspects identified Ram Prakash, Dev Raj, Kishan Pal and Anil, all residents of Chhota Pana of Kalana were allegedly involved in gambling. An amount of Rs 3,355 was also seized from them. Meanwhile, the police has registered a case against two persons on charges of assaulting three members of a family of Roop Nagar here on Divali night.

SONEPAT
Criticised:
Mr Dharampal Singh Malik, President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, on Tuesday criticised the state government's move to terminate the services of as many as 6,500 ad hoc teachers for filling posts of teachers lying vacant in various schools of the state. He said these teachers had completed 240 days of service and were entitled to regularisation.

BILASPUR
No parking zone:
The Deputy Commissioner and the District Magistrate here on Monday passed an order under Section 115 of the Himachal Pradesh Motor Vehicles Act and banned the parking of all types of vehicles from Anand petrol pump to Court road chowk and from college chowk to gurdwara chowk declaring it as "no parking zone".

Laboratory set up: The Assistant Commissioner, Mr Rajdev Singh Jasrotia, stated here on Monday that the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board has set up a pollution control regional laboratory at BBMB Colony at Sundernagar in Mandi district. It will also cover Bilaspur district.

Shop destroyed: A gift shop, Classic Choice was destroyed in a fire in the main market area here on Sunday. Fire Officer M.S. Sonkhala said the fire brigade rushed to the site and extinguished the fire immediately. The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.

KANGRA
Suicides:
Three persons in the subdivision tried to commit suicide. One of them died at the local subdivisional hospital while a couple was fighting for life at the same hospital. Budhi Singh (35) of Nathered Bandi village died at the hospital after allegedly consuming poison on Sunday. Shamsheer Singh (28) and his wife Sharda Devi (26) also consumed poison in their house. Their condition was stated to be critical.

Photo exhibition: Glimpse 99 a two-day photo exhibition of Mr Rajender Rajan depicting various aspect of the hill state would be held in the Kangra Museum at Dharamshala on November 16. More than 60 photo- prints will be displayed. The exhibition would be inaugurated by Mr B.K. Aggarwal, DC. The artist, is also a Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at Dharamshala.

KULU
Suicide:
Bhag Chand (55) of Shamshi village allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Beas on Sunday. The body was retrieved from the river. He was reportedly suffering from cancer.

NURPUR
Resin seized:
The Nurpur police impounded two vans on Sunday at Athara village and found 49 litres of illicit resin. Sher Singh, Parveen Kumar and Ramesh Kumar were arrested under Sections 379 and 37 of the IPC.

SHIMLA
Arrears:
The Himachal Pradesh University Teachers Association has urged the government to release their pay arrears which have been revised by the UGC. The association has warned that they will launch a stir if there is delay in the release of the arrears.
