BATHINDA
Two killed:
Two persons, a man and a woman, were killed on the spot when their car collided with a truck on Sunday near Sedha Singhwala village on the Jaito-Bajakhana road, the police said on Monday. A case has been registered in this connection. The truck driver has absconded.

MALERKOTLA
Property rates:
Rates of commercial and domestic property (only plots) here have been increased, according to a government spokesman. The "no dues" certificate from the House Tax Department has been made compulsory for selling property.

PHAGWARA
Students honoured:
Mr Baldev Chawla, Deputy Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, honoured 11 middle-standard students from the district at a function organised here on Sunday. It was organised by the Phagwara branch of the Bharat Vikas Parishad.

PHILLAUR
Mishap:
Tirlochan Singh, a boy was killed on the spot, while 30 persons, including women and children, sustained injuries when a truck carrying them overturned on GT Road near Phillaur on Sunday. The accident occurred when the truck skidded off the road after the driver lost control of the vehicle

KHARAR
Immunised: As many as 100 children below 10 years in age, belonging to poor sections of society, were immunised against hepatitis-B in 2 slum colonies on Sunday. According to Mr M.K. Rajan, project chairman of the local Rotary Club, the vaccination was done free of cost by the club.

BHIWANI
Telephone services:
Telephones and fax services in the district have been disrupted at several areas for the past several due days to some technical defect in the DTO. This is causing inconvenience to subscribers.

Seminar: A seminar was organised on Monday on "Diabetics, treatment and Precautions" by the Magnus branch of Kanol Pharmaceuticals here. Dr Arun Kumar Sood, Professor, Medical Department , Pt B.D. Sharma Postgraduate Medical College, Rohtak, addressed the gathering.

Rally: A demonstration was held by local people, including women and children, in front of the residence of the Minister of State for Home and Tourism, Mr Ram Bhajan Agarwal over the non-availability of drinking water.

Body found: The police has recovered a body from a feeder canal near Imlota village which has been sent for a post-mortem examination. In another incident, one person was killed and another injured seriously in a collision between a scooter and another vehicle near Bhairvi village in Charkhi Dadri subdivision. The driver of the vehicle has absconded. A case has been registered.

Road construction: Residents of Ladhan Pana village of Charkhi Dadri town have demanded the completion of incomplete roads. They said the construction of these roads had not been taken up for the past 20 years.

FATEHABAD
Convention:
The 13th biannual convention of the Haryana State Fourth Class Government Employees Union was held here on Saturday. Mr Om Parkash, President of the Bank Employees Federation, inaugurated the convention.

JIND
Sentenced:
Dr Neelima, Chief Judicial Magistrate, here sentenced Sher Singh of Kila Zafargarh village to four years' rigorous imprisonment for attacking and injuring Raghunath, a carpenter. A fine of Rs 5000 was also imposed on him.

KURUKSHETRA
Educational institutions:
An educational institution will be opened in each district in Haryana in memory of Bhagwan Parshu Ram. A resolution to this effect was unanimously passed by the Haryana Pradesh Brahmin Sabha Executive Committee at its meeting held here on Sunday. Mr Ashok Sharma, President of the sabha, said Bhagwan Parshu Ram College would be opened in Sonepat and its foundation stone would laid on June 18.

SIRSA
Arrested:
The police has arrested Ved Parkash of the local J.J. Colony under Sections 363, 366 and 376, IPC, for coaxing two girls, one of them a minor, into eloping with him. The police found the girls at H ansi railway station.

Smugglers held: An opium smuggler, who had got himself admitted under a false name at the Civil Hospital here and was a proclaimed offender was arrested on Sunday by the district police. According to police sources here on Sunday, two accomplices of the smuggler were also arrested.

Thieves arrested: The police arrested four persons on Sunday and recovered goods, including a car, stereo deck and bundle of wires from them. According to police sources on the complaint of Madan Lal the police had registered a case under Section 379, IPC, and arrested Inder Singh and Dharamveer and recovered the car. In another case Ellenabad police arrested Ranbeer and Subhash under Sections 457 and 380, IPC, in a theft case.

SONEPAT
Excavation work:
Mr Rajiv Jain, Political Press Adviser to the Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, and the HVP general secretary, inaugurated the excavation work regarding the remodelling of the West Juan Drain near Juan village, 15 km from here, on Sunday.

YAMUNANAGAR
Annual function:
Mr Vishnu Bhagwan, Financial Commissioner and Secretary, Education, Haryana, gave away awards to 400 students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for having achieved distinction in academics and sports. Dr Amrik Singh, Principal of the College , read out the annual report.

Commission report:
The Himachal Pradesh Minister of State for Cooperation, Mr Rikhi Ram Kaundel, said here on Sunday that the state government would receive the report of the commission with regards to the pay and commission for cooperative secretaries by June 30. He was addressing a meeting of the cooperative secretaries of the district at Bachat Bhavan here.

NURPUR
Decision welcomed:
The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Junior Engineers Association here has welcomed Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal's decision to enhance the promotion quota for junior engineers from 28 per cent to 32.
