Contaminated food makes 90 ill
JHUNJHUNU, May 8 (PTI) — At least 90 persons complained of vomiting and dysentery after consuming adulterated food yesterday in Chhotisahnali village of Churu district, officials sources said here today. All, those affected were admitted to the district hospital.

3,200 workers held
COIMBATORE, May 8 (PTI) — Over 3,200 textile workers were arrested today in Coimbatore district, when they attempted to block roads in front of mills as part of their one-day token strike demanding re-opening of closed textile mills and payment of Rs 1,000 per month to workers rendered unemployed due to the closure. About 1,100 workers and union leaders were taken into custody in Coimbatore city and over 2,100, in rural limits, police sources said. The call for the 24-hour strike, which began first shift onwards from 7 a.m. was given by the Joint Action Council of major trade unions.

5 jawans hurt in blast
VARANASI, May 8 (UNI) — At least five Provincial Armed Constabulary jawans were injured when a bomb exploded in the storehouse of Chetganj police station this morning. According to the police, the walls and the roof of the storehouse collapsed due to the impact of the explosion, injuring the jawans, camping there. The injured were taken to the Shriprasad Gupt Hospital.

Mild quake in Chamoli
NEW DELHI, May 8 (UNI) — An earthquake of "slight" intensity struck Chamoli district in the UP hills late last night, The tremor occurred at 10.32 p.m. and measured 3.9 on the Richter scale, the India Meteorological Department said.

Dutch Ambassador
ATHENS (Greece), May 8 (AP) — A time bomb exploded yesterday outside the Dutch Ambassador’s house in one of the most closely guarded areas of central Athens, causing damage but no injuries, the police said. The bomb exploded at around 11.15 p.m., local time, (8.15 GMT), damaging vehicles parked nearby. Police patrols are frequent in the neighbourhood the residence is located near the Presidential mansion, the Prime Minister’s office, the Presidential Guard barracks and a number of foreign embassies, including the Turkish embassy.
