ABOHAR
Jeep recovered:
The police on Wednesday arrested Baljit Singh Kamboj during a naka at Sriganganagar road for driving a stolen jeep. His accomplice, Harender Singh Mehra, however, escaped. The police also recovered a stolen scooter from his possession.

Medical camp: As many as 117 persons suffering from tuberculosis were examined at a free medical camp organised by the Punjab Welfare Association in a slum area here on Wednesday. About 134 children were given polio drops and DPT vaccine.

JALANDHAR
New exchange:
A state-of-the art 10,000-line exchange has been installed at Phagwara. Mr Rajesh Wadhwa, General Manager, Telecom, Jalandhar, said it would be expanded by 5000 lines soon.

KAPURTHALA
2 killed in mishap:
Two persons, including a boy, were killed in two different road accidents on Wednesday. Hari Ram (4) was killed when he was run over by a tractor trailer at Ajit Nagar Colony while Makhan Singh of Baguwal was killed when his bicycle was hit by a tractor trailer near Fattudhinga village.

Suicide: Sukhwinder Singh (28) of Raipur Peer Buxwala allegedly committed suicide after consuming some poisonous substance on Wednesday. Domestic dispute is said to be the reasons behind the suicide. A case has been registered.

KHARAR
Artificial limbs:
The local Rotary Club in association with the Rotary Chandigarh Midtown will organise an artificial limbs camp at Khalsa Senior Secondary School on Sunday. According to Mr J.P Dhiman, President of the club, artificial limbs, callipers and wheelchairs will be given free of cost.

Urged: Mr Zora Singh Bhuller, Secretary of the Ropar unit of the SAD on Tuesday urged the government to remove encroachments on panchayat land at Chappar Chirri Khurd village. He said he had made a complaint to the SDM, SAS Nagar, last year but nothing had been done in this regard.

Sarpanch's plea: Mrs Swarn Kaur, Sarpanch of Balaungi Colony village, in a letter to the Director Rural Development and Panchayats on Tuesday demanded that the panchayat should be given charge of its share in the common land of the original village. She said two gram panchayats were formed out of Balaungi village last year and the new panchayat should have a share in the property of the village.

LUDHIANA
Patwaris' protest:
Members of the Patwar Union, Punjab, and the Revenue Patwar Union, Ludhiana, held a protest rally in front of the office of the SDM here on Wednesday in protest against the delay in the implementation of the revised pay scales. They are also demanding time-bound promotions.

MOGA
Mela held:
The annual Daler Shahidi mela was held at Thathibhai and Langeana Purana villages on Wednesday. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the state participated.

Mahila Congress:
Mrs Kala Wanti has been appointed organising secretary of the Punjab Mahila Congress.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Lions Club Chandigarh Royal: President — Mr Harjeet Singh Bhurjee; Vice-Presidents — Mr H.S. Anand and Mr Manjinder Singh; Secretary — Mr Jatinder Singh; Treasurer — Mr R.S. Kohli; and PRO — Mr K.S. Bhattal.

Condemned: The local unit of the Samata Party has condemned the continuous onslaught against the Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes, by the Congress and the Communist Party of India. The local unit held that the debate scheduled to be held in Parliament on April 12 would make the issue clear to the public as Mr Fernandes would present facts over the controversy leading to the removal of Adm V. Bhagwat, a press note of the unit said on Thursday.

PANCHKULA
Criticised:
The Manav Colony Residents Weflare Society on Thursday criticised the decision of the Haryana Government to acquire land in Saketri and Bhainsa Tibba villages. It also demanded extension of lal dora to the village.

Urged: The Citizens’ Welfare Association on Thursday urged the Haryana Urban Development Authority to remove the encroachments on its land rather than removing hedges and fences grown by the residents in front of their houses.top

AMBALA
Welfare camp:
A family welfare camp was organised at the General Hospital in the cantonment here on Monday. Eighteen persons were operated upon and gifts were given to them by the local branch of the Bank of Baroda.

Case registered: The police has booked Daya Chand, Parkasho Devi, Pawan Kumar and Raj Rani for allegedly burning to death Kamlesh Kumari, a widow and her son at Nur Ki Taprain village on Tuesday. A case has been registered against them.

Two killed: Satish Kumar was killed and Poonam was injured when their moped was hit by a truck near Kesri village on Tuesday. In another accident, Madan Pal of Mauli village was killed when his scooter was hit by a truck at Shahzadpur village.

FARIDABAD
Shot dead:
One person was shot dead and two others were injured in an armed clash between two groups at Pehchanka village near Palwal, 40 km from here, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Altaf Hussain. Two persons have been arrested in this regard. In another case, 17-year-old Mamni reportedly committed suicide after consuming some poisonous substance at Parvati Colony.

HAU budget: A budget of Rs 91.6 crore has been approved for Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University for this year. This year the allocation to the university is more by Rs 14.52 crore .

HISAR
Suicide:
Vijay Singh (24) and Rishi Bala (20), both staying on the Haryana Agricultural University campus, allegedly committed suicide in a hotel room near Dabra Chowk here on Wednesday. The reason behind the suicide is not known.

SIRSA
Demonstration:
Members of the Northern Railway Labourers Union held a demonstration in front of the office of the Assistant Engineer on Thursday in support of their demands. They said the new pay scales had benefited officers and not group D and C employees.

Convicted: Mr Harbir Singh Dahiya, Judicial Magistrate (class 1) on Wednesday sentenced Raja Ram and Ram Singh of Tajiakhera village to two and a half-years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 800 each on them for assaulting two persons of the same village.

Drowned: Manoj, a Class X student, drowned in a tank near the Barnala road on Wednesday .

Suicide: Kanchan Kumari reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house on Wednesday. The reason behind the suicide is not known.

Case registered: Mool Chand of Patli Dabar was run over by a truck near Ding, 25 km from here. While he was walking on the road. A case has been registered.

SONEPAT
Held:
The Kharkhauda police has arrested Satbir of Rohna village in connection with the theft of a truck loaded with rice worth Rs 8 lakh.

YAMUNANAGAR
Eye camp:
The All-India Samaj Seva Kendra organised an eye camp at Bhambol, Kishan Pura and Kamsapur villages on Thursday. As many as 400 persons were examined and medicines were given free of cost.

HAMIRPUR
2 arrested:
The police on Thursday arrested Samirdin and Amirdin, both brothers of Khala village who had allegedly absconded after beating up a police head constable on March 8.

KANGRA
Man kills nephew:
Raj Kumar (24) of Khatol Bodla was allegedly killed by his uncle on Wednesday. District police chief K.C. Sadiyal said the two had some altercation which led to the murder. The accused has been arrested and a case registered against him.

Case solved: The police on Wednesday claimed to have solved a robbery case with the arrest of four persons. Over Rs 8 lakh has been recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Sat Pal, Dharam Pal, Angroz Singh and Raj Kumar, all residents of Pathankot.

PARWANOO
Deputation:
A deputation of the Himachal Pradesh Housing Board Employees Association met the Vice-Chairman of the Board, Mr Ganesh Dutt Sharma, at Shimla and presented a charter of demands to him. It demands include promotion of eligible staff, creation of sufficient ministerial and technical posts of various cadre and accommodation to the employees.
