JFK Jr plane wreckage
BOSTON, July 17 (AFP) Searchers today found the
wreckage "consistent with an aircraft
accident," including a headrest and carpeting, that
may have come from the missing plane piloted by John F.
Kennedy Jr., a Coast Guard official said. The debris was
discovered 100 metres off shore at Gay Head beach on
Martha's vineyard said Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Gary
Jones. Searchers also found what may have been luggage
from the missing Kennedy aircraft, and one of the pieces
of luggage bore the name of one of the aircraft's
passengers, said Jones.Imam held for espionage
CHINSURA (West Bengal), July 17 (PTI) An imam of a
local mosque has been arrested for his alleged
involvement in espionage bids and criminal activities in
Bangladesh, the police sources said today. Mohammad Zakir
Hussain Noori alias Taslimuddin, serving as the imam of
the Jama Masjid here for the past seven months, was
arrested yesterday on a tip off by the Murshidabad
police, the Superintendent of Police, Hoogly, Mr
Gangeswar Singh, said here.
ISI agents
remanded
MUMBAI, July 17 (PTI) A local court today refused
to free on bail four suspected ISI agents who allegedly
procured and transmitted "classified documents"
to Pakistani intelligence agency in Karachi. Remanding
them in judicial custody till July 31, the Additional
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, however, decided to
consider on Monday the bail plea of the accused, charged
with the violation of the Official Secrets Act 1923.
Dalit raped
NEW DELHI, July 17 (PTI) A 30-year-old Dalit woman
was allegedly raped by a 70-year-old temple priest and
his accomplice in the Sultanpuri area of North-West Delhi
on July 14, the police said here today. The victim, a
Labour Front activist, was allegedly picked up by the
priest of a local temple Baba Hari Ram, and 15 to 20 of
his accomplices and allegedly raped by the priest and his
friend, Shamsher, in the presence of others, according to
a statement made by her to the police today.
Minister freed
MOSCOW, July 17 (AP) A Chechen official who was
arrested here for allegedly taking part in a
hostage-taking raid three years ago was released today,
Russian news agencies reported. Chechen Security Minister
Turpal-Ali Atqeriyev was detained yesterday by Interior
Ministry forces at Moscow's Vnukovo airport.
