NHRC move hailed
NEW DELHI, Jan 26 (PTI) — Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has welcomed the decision of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to send its team to probe the killing of an Australian missionary and his two sons in Orissa. "I welcome the (NHRC) decision. Let the facts come out," he told reporters yesterday. The Prime Minister called for swift and stringent action against the culprits. The NHRC took suo motu cognisance of the gruesome killing and directed its Director General (investigation) Karthikeyan to make an on-the-spot study of the situation.

Kills wife, children
LUCKNOW, Jan 26 (PTI) — A man allegedly killed his wife and three children and attempted to commit suicide in Chittupura of Varanasi today, the police said. The police said the culprit, identified as Hiralal, first allegedly knifed his wife and three children to death and then tried to kill himself. Senior police officials, who reached the scene, said they believed poor financial condition of the family was the reason for the killings. Hiralal had been admitted to the hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.

RSS workers held
KOZHIKODE, Jan 26 (PTI) — Fifty-nine RSS activists have been arrested for allegedly attacking three Evangelist seminary students at Vatakara yesterday, the police said. The activists attacked the students, who were returning home after attending prayers, as a protest against their alleged attempts to convert a large number of people to Christianity. They were attacked with lethal weapons, the police said, adding one of them, who was seriously injured, was undergoing treatment in the Government hospital.

4 killed in boat capsize
KALYANI (WB), Jan 26 (PTI) — Four people, including two children were killed when a boat carrying about 15 passengers capsized in Magra Beel (small lake) at Parmajdia village in West Bengal's Nadia district today. The victims were crossing the Beel to reach their picnic site when the mishap occurred.
