FARIDKOT
Adarsh schools: The Punjab
Government will spend Rs 5.25 crore to improve
the quality of education in six Adarsh Public
schools during the next financial year. Every
teacher of these institutions would be sent to
reputed public schools in different parts of the
country to make them aware about new methods of
teaching. This was stated by Gurdev Singh Badal
Agricultural Minister presiding over the annual
prize distribution function of local MRSD Senior
Secondary School on Saturday. The minister said
one more such institution would be opened at
Kotbhai village in Muktsar district. LPG shortage:
Resentment prevails among the local LPG consumers
on the shortage and delay in the supply of
refills for the past nearly two months. A delay
of 10 to 12 days is usual.
GURDASPUR
NSS camp: An eight-day NSS camp
concluded on Saturday. More than 65 volunteers
from Government Senior Secondary School here
participated. Ms Santokh Khosla, senior teacher,
was the in charge.
Case
registered : The police on Sunday
arrested Mahana Masih, Mukhtiar Masih and Jamal
Masih on a charge of stealing and killing a cow
of Amar Nath. A case under Sections 379, IPC and
4/5 of the Cow Slaughter Act has been registered
against them.
Ban :
Mr S.K. Sandhu, District Magistrate, has banned
the movement of persons from the international
border to the border security fencing from 9 p.m.
to 5 a.m. The ban will remain in force till March
6. This order will not be enforceable on the G T
Road running from the border barrier to
Gurdaspur. However, armed personnel are exempted
from this ban.
Sangat
darshan : As many as 80 of the 100
complaints were solved on the spot in a
"sangat darshan" held at Bhungal
Bandani village on Saturday. Mr Mohan Lal, Forest
Minister, was the chief guest while Mr S.K.
Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner, presided. The
minister said Rs 3.7 crore and Rs 1.5 crore had
been sanctioned for the extension of drinking
waterfacility and repair of link roads,
respectively, in Dhar subdivision.
HOSHIARPUR
Criticised: The Punjab Clinical
Laboratories Association in a press note issued
on Saturday said the government should constitute
a separate council for medical technologists like
nursing, pharmacy and homoeopathy councils.
KHANNA
Namdhari martyrs: A two-day
state-level function will be organised at
Malerkotla on January 17 and 18 in memory of Kuka
Namdhari martyrs. Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Chief
Minister, Punjab, will preside. This was stated
by Mr Dalip Singh, Press Secretary, Namdhari
Darbar here on Saturday.
School
function : The annual function of the
local A.S. Senior Secondary School was held here
on Sunday. Mr S.S. Sodhi, SSP, Nawanshahr, was
the chief guest.
Bar
association : The following have been
elected office-bearers of the local Bar
Association : President Mr Munish Khanna;
Vice-President Mr S.S. Dhaliwal; and
Secretary Mr K.S. Uppal.
LUDHIANA
Traffic
control: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr
Arun Goel, has advised the district transport
officer and the Traffic Police at a meeting of
the district Traffic Control Committee to deal
strictly with traffic rule violators. Mr Goel,
came down heavily on government vehicles not
following the rules and said they should also be
brought to book. He said, barring the Chief
Minister and the Governor, no other VIP or
government official should be allowed to cross
the red light. The Deputy Commissioner also said
the cars supporting blue number plates or red
lights unofficially be challaned.
NAWANSHAHR
Best bhangra team: The bhangra
team of the local J.S.F.F. Khalsa High School has
won the first prize in the state-level
competitions organised by the Punjab School
Education Board at Bhaini Sahib, according to Mr
Baldev Singh Pabla, Headmaster of the school.
Science
magazine: Prof B.S. Balli, DPRO,
released the first colour issue of a Punjabi
magazine "Vighayan Jyoti" here on
Friday. He praised the efforts of the editorial
board of the magazine for publishing a science
magazine in Punjabi language with a view to
promote scientific attitude among the masses.
PATIALA
Deputation: A deputation of the
Punjab Government College Teachers' Association
led by its President Dr P.S. Bhatti and General
Secretary, Prof Bhag Singh has met the Finance
Minister, Capt Kanwaljit Singh, the Principal
Secretary, Mr Rajan Kashyap, the Principal
Secretary Higher Education, Mr G.P.S. Sahi, and
sought an early implementation of new pay scales
as recommended by the UGC.
Charge
taken over: Mr Gagandeep Singh assumed
office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner
(Development) here on Saturday. Earlier he was
posted at Ludhiana as Subdivisional Magistrate.
Meanwhile, Mr Avtar Chand Sharma has taken over
as District Transport Officer here.
Strike:
The local unit of All India Bank Officer's
Confederation has decided to observe a strike on
January 12 on the call given by the United Forum
of Bank Unions, according to a press note issued
by Confederation 's Treasurer R.P. Singh here on
Saturday. The bank officers and employees are
demanding wage revision.
Awards:
The Director, of the Punjab Language Department,
Mr M.L. Hasija, said here that the Language
Department had constituted three best printing
awards to be awarded to publishers printing in
Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. It had chosen Lok Sahit
Publication, Amritsar for Guru Ram Dass biography
and Philosophy ( Punjabi), VVP Publishers,
Patiala, for "Andheron Ka Pratibimb" (
Hindi) and Darpan Publication Pathankot for
"Jaibay Sukhan" (Urdu). Mr Hasija said
the award includes Rs 2500 in cash and a plaque.
