FATEHGARH SAHIB
Development funds:
The Punjab Government will spend Rs 948.19 lakh on the development of this historical district. Of this Rs 333.50 lakh has been earmarked for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Mr Manoranjan Kalia, Minister for Health and Family Welfare-cum-Chairman of the District Planning Board, said this at a meeting of the board held on Monday.

GURDASPUR
Case registered:
The district police has registered a case under Sections 419, 465 and 471-B, IPC, against Inder Kumar Goel and his son, Neeraj Kumar, the rice millers of Dhariwal, according to Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP, here on Monday.

Protest rally: Engineers of the PSEB, Gurdaspur region, held a protest rally here on Monday in protest against the indifferent attitude of the management towards their demands, according to Mr Dharam Bir Salwan, regional Secretary of the association.

Three arrested: The police on Monday arrested Sanjay Kumar, alias Golu, of Patel Nagar, Kathua, Rakesh Kumar, alias Raja, of Basroop and Rajinder Kumar, alias Jinder of Phool Piara, both under Pathankot subdivision, in connection with the death of Suneel Kumar, alias Kaku of Kathua and Mohinder of Khadour village on December 29.

Blood donation camp: As many as 51 units of blood were collected at a blood donation camp held on Monday under the aegis of the local Blood Bank Society. Mr Vimal Marwaha donated blood for the 51st time.

Installed:
The Lions Club was formally inaugurated here on Sunday. The President, Lion Major Bali Ram Anand, and members of his team were installed at a function. Mrs Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, MP, Ropar , and Mr Ravinder Parkash Goyal, District Governor, were present on the occasion.

Appointed:
Dr J.S. Puar, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, has appointed Dr Satpal Nalwa, Dean of the Faculty of Law for two years, according to an official press note.

Course: The IAS and Allied Services Training Centre of Punjabi University will conduct a two-week personality development and interview preparation course for candidates who have passed PCS (Executive ) main examination, from February 15, according to Mr G.S.Bajwa, Director of the centre.

Association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Patiala City Wholesale Chemist Association: President — Mr Bhagwant Singh; Vice-President — Mr Kundan Gogia; General Secretary — Mr Balbir Singh; Joint Secretary — Mr Sanjay Chopra; and Cashier — Mr Paramdeep Singh.

Dental association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local unit of Indian Dental Association: President — Dr HS Chawla; President-elect — Dr RP Gupta; Vice-President — Dr SP Singh; Secretary — Dr K. Gauba; Joint Secretary — Dr Vidya Rattan; and Treasurer — Dr Tarun Walia.

Seminar: The Anandpur Sahib Foundation will organise a two-day international level seminar here in the third week of March as part of the tercentenary celebration programmes of the birth of the Khalsa. The theme of the seminar will be "Relevance of Khalsa value system for 21st century".

Youth club: The Nehru Yuva Kendra set up a youth club in Palsora village here on Tuesday. Mr Bhupinder Singh was nominated chairman and Mr Yashwinder Singh president of the club. Other members are Major Pal Singh, Mr Tarlochan Puri and Mr Surinder Singh, Mr Darbara Singh, Mr Suresh Kumar, Mr Narinder Singh, Mr Gurinder Singh, Mr Gurbaksh Singh and Mr Baljinder Singh.

Fast: The indefinite fast by members of the Deep Complex Welfare Association entered 21st day on Tuesday. Mr Mehar Singh, Mr Pritam Singh, Mr Gurdial Singh, Mr Suresh Kumar and Mr Balbir Singh sat on fast on Tuesday, according to a statement by Mr J.S. Benipal, president of the association.

PPS officers' meeting:
A meeting of the PPS Officers Association will be held in Jalandhar on February 7 in the PAP complex. The association president, Mr R.S. Randhawa, local SP, said on Monday that the meeting would discuss the issue of pay scales and other service matters.

FATEHABAD
Liquor seized:
The district police has seized 25,000 polybags of illicit liquor near Dariyapur village in this district and arrested three persons, according to Mr Rajbir Deswal, SP. The police has registered a case under the Excise Act against them.

JIND
Demanded:
The local branch of the Indian Medical Association at a meeting held here on Sunday expressed its concern over the increasing threats to doctors of private nursing homes by some anti-social elements . The association demanded action against these elements.

SIRSA
Opium seized:
The police seized opium from Ramu Bhandari on Monday. In another incident, the police seized opium from Baldev of Banio village. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act against them.

Demonstration: The local unit of the Haryana Pradesh Yuva Sammelan staged a demonstration against the ban on grants to Agroha Medical College. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and the local MLA, Prof Ganeshi Lal. The memorandum was addressed to the Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, demanded immediate release of the grants.

Open darbar: As many as 73 complaints were solved in an darbar held here on Monday. The Deputy Commissioner presided over the darbar. Residents of the area complained against the misuse of yellow cards.

SONEPAT
Strike:
Members of the Bar Association started an indefinite strike at Gohana on Monday in protest against the shifting of nine villages of the Gohana police station to the newly created Mohana police station by the government.

Cultural meet: BPS College, Khanpur Kalan, bagged the trophy in the inter-college cultural meet held in Tikka Ram Girls College here on Monday. As many as 80 students participated. Ms Mridula Sharma, Assistant Director, Research Association, Indian Universities, was the chief guest.

Drive: The District Congress Committee on Tuesday launched a mass contact programme to mobilise people for the Kranti Yatra scheduled to be started from February 8. The yatra will conclude at Gohana on February 10.

Library inaugurated: Mr Kunj Behari, a social worker of Delhi, inaugurated a children library and a reading room at Rishi Nagar here on Sunday. A cultural programme was presented by schoolchildren.

Rotary Club: Mr T.C. Alakh has been elected President of the Rotary Club, Sonepat, for the year 2000-2001.

Workshop concludes:
A seven-day workshop on traditional knowledge systems, organised under the aegis of the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal, concluded here on Sunday. The workshop was attended by 80 participants. Mr Vidya Sagar, Agriculture Minister, was present on the occasion.
