19 killed in plane crash in Angola
LUANDA, Feb 2 (AFP) — At least 19 persons were killed early today when a plane caught fire shortly after take-off and plunged into several homes in Cazenga, Luanda’s most populous neighbourhood, the civil aviation authorities said. The Antonov-12 craft crashed into the houses only a few metres from the Asa-Branca market, one of Luanda’s big markets, said Mr Branco Ferreira, Angola’s Civil Aviation Director. The impact set several houses ablaze though firemen rushed to the scene and brought the fires under control, a spokesman of the Fire Department said.

Fodder scam case
PATNA, Feb 2 (PTI) — Rashtriya Janata Dal President Laloo Prasad Yadav today appeared before the court of the designated CBI Judge S.K. Lal in a conspiracy angle case of the fodder scam. Former Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, however, failed to appear in the court in the same case as he was away in New Delhi. The case (RC 64(A)/96) relates to fraudulent withdrawals of more than Rs 97 lakh from the Deoghar treasury by the state Animal Husbandry Department officials through "forged and fake" bills.

2 troops die in Pak
QUETTA, Feb 2 (DPA) — At least two Army men were killed and three others wounded in an explosion at an army unit in Pakistan, press reports said today. Some ammunition exploded at a camp in Quetta, provincial capital of Balochistan province, during a routine check yesterday, wounding five troops, two of whom later died in hospital, officials said.

NEW DELHI, Feb 2 (UNI) — Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has lost the equivalent of two divisions of men and material to cordon-and-search operations and interceptions on the Line of Control (LoC) by the Indian security forces, says the Asia Defence News International (ADNI) quoting Ministry of Defence sources here. According to the ADNI, Kashmiris in Pak-occupied Kashmir (PoK) too had begun cold-shouldering the ISI when it started to crack down of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), which refused to toe the Pakistani line.

3 die in oil well fire
BARODA, Feb 2 (PTI) — Three persons were killed in a fire that broke out after they allegedly tampered with a closed oil well of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Paktan village in Bharuch district of Gujarat early today. Fire fighters from Bharuch, the Indian Petrochemical Corporation Limited (IPCL) and other places rushed to the spot to put out the blaze, the police said. The victims were trying to pilfer oil from the 10-year-old closed well, an ONGC spokesman said. On seeing the flames engulf the well, three other pilferers fled from the scene, he said.

ABSU leader dead
TEZPUR, Feb 2 (PTI) — An All-Bodo Students Union leader died in custody at the Tezpur district jail yesterday, official sources said here today. ABSU’s Rangapara unit president Khowrang Narzary was arrested from his father-in -law’s house at Kherenibasti on January 24 last by the Army and handed over to police six days later.

3 ISI agents held
MUMBAI, Feb 2 (PTI) — The police arrested three Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agents who, they claimed, had planned to carry out subversive acts in the metropolis. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap outside Kandivali railway station here last night and nabbed Sayyed Abbas Zaidi (28), Manna Hussain (27) and Rasheed Ziyaee (26), Additional Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria told reporters today.Top
