Chautala woos employees FARIDABAD, Aug 1 Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, said today that the report of the Fifth Pay Commission would be implemented by the state government. He said this at a rally of the Indian National Lok Dal at Dhauj village, 15 km from here. It was also attended by leaders of the Haryana Vikas Party (Democratic) and the BJP, the two coalition partners. Mr Chautala also said that the injustice done to the employees by the previous government led by Mr Bansi Lal would be vacated and their demands accepted. Despite the Bansi Lal government leaving the state exchequer empty, problems of the people would be solved. He alleged that Mr Bansi Lal had given up the welfare schemes initiated by Mr Devi Lal, the then Chief Minister. Launching the election campaign Mr Chautala said the coming Lok Sabha elections would be fought under the banner of the newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA). There would also be a common manifesto. He called upon the electorate to vote for candidates of the NDA so that a strong government could be formed at the Centre. The Chief Minister sought cooperation of the people to build a new strong and prosperous Haryana. The government was committed to initiate pro-people policies. The good schemes launched by the previous Bhajan Lal and Bansi Lal governments would also be implemented. The problems of Faridabad would no longer be ignored. Among others who also addressed the rally were Mr Kartar Singh Bhadana, Minister for Cooperation, Mr Ram Chand Bainda, former MP and Mr Krishna Pal Gujjar, a former minister, both of the BJP. FOC: The all government employees dismissed during the Bansi Lal regime will be re-instated and false court cases filed against them withdrawn. This was declared here today by Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. Referring to large scale
transfers in the state recently, he said that he did not
defy the Election Commission instructions but limited
adjustment of officers was made from one place to another

Chautala SONEPAT, Aug 1 The Haryana Government has decided to give top priority to improve the law and order situation and streamline the power and water supplies in urban and rural areas of the state. Stating this, the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, told this correspondent here today that he had come to power due to the misdeeds of the outgoing Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, under whose regime the state had faced the jungle rule and the people were leading to an insecure life. He charged Mr Bansi Lal of adopting an indifferent attitude towards the elected representatives of the people. He described Mr Bansi Lal as an autocratic ruler and said every section of the society, including farmers and government employees, were fed up with him. He declared that he was committed to give a free and fair administration to the people and would not tolerate corruption in the administration at any cost. The state government, he said, would take stern action against officials engaged in corrupt practices in the administration. Replying to a question, the Chief Minister disclosed that he had been in touch with the BJP high command for including the BJP legislators in his Cabinet. He also announced that
his party would contest the Lok Sabha elections under the
banner of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)
in Haryana and other states. |
Sonepat seat for Hooda opposed SONEPAT, Aug 1 (PTI) A large number of Congress workers, affiliated to former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, held a meeting here today to oppose the possible candidature of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, HPCC President, from the Sonepat Lok Sabha seat. Former Minister Hukam Singh Dahiya and Azad Singh Nehra, former President of the Haryana Youth Congress were among those who attended this meeting. By a resolution the meeting opposed the reported move of some Congress leaders to field Hooda from Sonepat as a Congress candidate and warned that the Congress workers would not tolerate any outsider to contest the Lok Sabha elections from this seat. The meeting urged the Congress high command not to be misled by the so-called 'well-wishers' of the party as they had their self-interests in recommending the name of Hooda. It said the party ticket should be given only to Dharampal Singh Malik, former President of the HPCC, who alone was 'capable' for the party ticket from this seat. It warned that if Hooda
was given party ticket from this seat, the party workers
would have no other alternative but to oppose Hooda in a
big way. |
4 get 10-year jail for raping minor KURUKSHETRA, Aug 1 (UNI) The Additional District and Sessions Judge B.L. Singhal has sentenced four persons to 10 years imprisonment and also fined Rs 1,000 to each of them for raping and threatening to kill a minor girl of Kheri Ram Nagar village, near here, in 1996. According to Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Alok Roy here today, the mother of the victim lodged a complaint with the police on July 21, 1996 that one Rajender, alias Raju, of Kheri Ramnagar village, where the complainant had migrated from Kaithal 12 years ago, had raped her daughter in the house when the family had gone out. The accused had also threatened to kill the girl if she disclosed the incident to anyone, Mr Roy said. After the registration of the case against Raju, it was found that three other youths of Palwal village, Rajender Kumar alias Bheera, Karam Singh alias Karma and Rajender Kumar alias Jinda, had also raped the girl. The police produced the
challan in the court in August 1996 and pursued the case,
Mr Roy added. |
Sampat tells officers to work
honestly FATEHABAD, Aug 1 Haryana Finance Minister Sampat Singh urged government officers to perform their duties with honesty and always keep public interest in mind. He was addressing officers at the local Bal Bhavan yesterday on his first visit to his home constituency Fatehabad after becoming a minister. Deputy Commissioner V. Raja Shekhar, district police chief Kala Ramchanderan and other senior government officers of the district were present on the occasion. The minister asked the officers to implement the model code of conduct. He said the INLD government was committed to holding free and fair Lok Sabha elections. He said the government officers must keep it in mind that they were servants of the public and their conduct must reflect it. He regretted that some officers considered their position as a licence to government. This, he said, was not right. Mr Sampat Singh said the improving the lot of farmers would be the top priority of the INLD government. The minister said the government would strive hard to provide sufficient power and water supply to the farmers. Repair of roads and redressal of public grievances would also be taken up. He also asked the officials of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam to take utmost care in the matter of power billing as there were complaints regarding this. He also told the officers to ensure sufficient supply of clean potable water in their areas. He asked the officers to maintain a complaint register regularly so that the people could register their complaints. Earlier, the Deputy

Youth murdered in broad
daylight SONEPAT, Aug 1 Jai Dev, a 24-year-old youth, was allegedly murdered in a broad daylight two motor cycle-borne armed youths in the thickly populated area of the Sonepat-Gohana road here yesterday. According to preliminary reports, the victim who belonged to Naya Gaon village, was standing on this road when two armed youths came on a motor cycle there. One of them got down from it and started assaulting him by a sharp-edged weapon (khukhari). Jai Devi sustained multiple injuries on his neck and he collapsed on the spot. Mr Raj Singh, ASI, on seeing the incident rushed to the scene and grappled with the assailant, but his associate came to his rescue. He threatened the ASI with dire consequences if he did not let off the assailant. Thereupon, the ASI let him off and both of them managed to escape on the motor cycle. The city police has
registered a case of murder against the assailants who
have been identified. A massive hunt is on to apprehend
them. |
Two killed in road mishaps SONEPAT, Aug 1 Two persons were killed and three others, including a women, were injured in three different accidents which occurred on the GT Road, near here, yesterday. According to a report, a seven-year-old girl, Ninoo, who was crossing the road along with her mother, was crushed to death on the GT Road near Kundli village. Her mother sustained minor injuries. The police has registered a case against the jeep driver, Kuldeep of Juan village on the charge of rash and negligent driving and causing the death of the victim. Another report said two
Congressmen sustained injuries when they got down from a
bus at Kundli village. The police has registered a case
against the tempo driver in this connection. According to
another report, a scooterist was killed when he was hit
by a truck. The victim has been identified as Kapil
Sharma. |
College sans principal, 20
lecturers NARNAUL, Aug 1 After the taking over of a private college at Nangal Chaudhry by the Haryana Government the college is in a mess. There in no principal for one year. Only seven lecturers are on roll and there are 20 vacancies of lecturer. Students are suffering in several subjects due to the absence of teaching staff in History, Political Science, Sanskrit, Military Science and Physical Education. Only two lecturers are teaching English, out of four. In the Geography department only one lecturer is available for the purpose and in Hindi only one out of two. The students and their
parents have urged the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash
Chautala to look into the affairs and ensure filling of
vacancies. |
