Israel warfare system for India
TEL AVIV, April 27 (AFP) — Israel has sold an advanced electronic warfare system to India over objections from the USA which has imposed sanctions on New Delhi over its nuclear arms programme, the Haaretz newspaper reported today. The newspaper said the electronics equipment, developed by a subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), was for ‘’defensive purposes’’ but did not provide any further details. A spokesman for the IAI, Israel’s biggest defence contractor, declined any comment on the Haaretz report, saying such weapons deals were classified.

PM to address nation today
NEW DELHI, April 27 (PTI) — The Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, will address the nation at 8.15 p.m. tomorrow on Doordarshan. The broadcast will be first in Hindi and later in English, according to official sources.

World War in July?
JOHANNESBURG, April 27 (PTI) — World War III will break out from the Balkans in July this year and end with the victory of the US-led NATO forces, French seer Nostradamus has predicted. Prof Wille Breytenbach, a South African political scientist says, according to his analysis of Nostradamus "World War III will start in July in the Balkans, last seven months and will end in victory for the US-led NATO." "I have to emphasise I am a sceptic," Prof Breytenbach, a lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch said.

Arrested
SEOUL (South Korea), April 27 (AP) — At least a hundred persons, including 16 Army doctors, have been arrested in a probe of the largest military draft scam ever uncovered in South Korea, investigators said today. Eighty more were booked for investigation without physical restraint and 27 were still sought. Most of those involved are members of rich families or brokers on their behalf accused of giving bribes of up to 80 million won (66,000 dollars) to 16 Army doctors in 1995-98, police and Army investigators said. If convicted, they face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 20 million won (16,000 dollars).

Taliban bombing
KABUL, April 27 (AFP) — Afghanistan’s Taliban Islamic Militia bombed positions held by the Opposition Northern Alliance yesterday and early today, killing 13 civilians, the Opposition said. An alliance spokesman said 13 civilians were killed and 17 wounded during aerial bombardment of the town of Talogan in northeast Afghanistan. He said the bombs struck a local bazaar.

Starvation deaths
AGARTALA, April 27 (UNI) — Fortyone persons, mostly tribesmen, have starved to death in the continuing dry spell in Tripura, Tripura Upajati Juba Samity (TUJS) general secretary and former minister Rabindra Debbarma alleged today. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Debbarma said the deaths occurred in Belonia and Amarpur subdivisions of South Tripura district and Gandachara, Ambassa and Longtharai valley sub-divisions of Dhalai district during the past few weeks.

5 die of heat stroke
AMBEDKARNAGAR, April 27 (UNI) — Five persons, including two children, died of heat stroke in the district during the past 24 hours. According to official sources, the heat wave sweeping the state claimed the life of two children in Neveda village while three persons died in Jalalpur subdivision.
