8 LTTE rebels killed
COLOMBO, April 25 (PTI) Eight LTTE rebels,
including three women extremists, were killed by the Sri
Lankan troops in the north, the Army said here today. A
defence press note said three rebels were killed and four
others were wounded near Oddusuddan in northern Vanni
yesterday while three LTTE women cadre were killed in an
ambush by troops near northern Paranthan. One more rebel
was killed in the same area in another incident, the note
said.Clash
in Bdesh
DHAKA, April 25 (AP) The riot police fired teargas
shells today to stop hundreds of demonstrators from
marching into the Prime Ministers Office protesting
against utility problems, witnesses said. At least 20
persons, including two policemen, were injured in the
clashes during which the protesters from the student wing
of the countrys main opposition Bangladesh
Nationalist Party set off crude home-made bombs,
according to witnesses.
Heat wave kills

BARODA, April 25 (PTI) The heat wave sweeping
parts of central Gujarat has claimed two more lives
taking the toll to four since Friday. The two deaths were
reported from Vaghodiyanagar and Kiya villages in the
district, hospital sources said, adding that both were
labourers but were yet to be identified. However, an
unconfirmed report said the body of a sadhu, who
succumbed to the severe heat, was also recovered from
Jalaramnagar in the city.
Criminal flees
BARODA, April 25 (PTI) A red alert has been
sounded in Gujarat as notorious criminal Raj Rohida
escaped from police custody after allegedly drugging the
police party bringing him to the city from Mumbai
yesterday, the police said today. Rohida was involved in
a number of cases of murder and extortion in Maharashtra
and Gujarat, including Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Thane, Baroda
and Ankleshwar, the police said.
Supporter killed
CALCUTTA, April 25 (PTI) One RSP supporter has been
killed and three injured in a clash with Trinamool
Congress activists at Patuakhali in West Bengals
South 24 Parganas district, the police said. The clash
yesterday was a result of a long-standing feud between
the two parties. Eight Trinamool Congress workers have
been arrested, including the five whose names figured in
the FIR, today in connection with the clash.
